i was reading on here that the grease goes hard and stops it from working as it should if not used often in low range,

Did you read the thread correctly, are you sure they were not referring to the electric hi/lo sector motor, in which case you don't need to remove the transfer gearbox...

hi yes i read it correct, the hi / low motor drys up and they striped it down and cleaned it out, replaced the grease and worked as it should, as mine is stuck in low gear and wont go back into hi,iv no intention in removing the transfer box just the motor

You can see the grease that has gone hard and preventing the full rotation od the motor, clean off and add a small amount of new grease and refit. Motor should now go full travel and change ratios.

Grease won't stop motor from turning. A bad connection on the contact block will.

hi i just got the motor out, will strip it tomorrow at work & fit after work,

I would like to thank you all for your help on this,
many thanks shane

hi striped the motor and changed the grease and marked it up before striping down, refitted motor with no change, still in low, i did notice that the selector lights are flashing ? iv changed the ECU as it blow just before it went into low,
anyone have any ideas please

When you had the motor off did you try to turn the shaft that comes out of the t/box to see if you can manually put the box in high ? It should move very easily, if it does not then perhaps the motor is ok and the problem is in the t/box. You can bench test the motor to see if it is functioning.:)

hi yes when i was putting it back in i did test the shaft and moves ok,

Try the motor on the bench. If you don't use low range then turn the shaft to high then lock it in place by refitting the motor ( not in its original position obviously) till you get a motor that works. If you were closer I have a spare you could have tried:)

ok i will give that a go tomorrow after work,no i don't use low range i take it the best way would be to turn the spline on the motor to move it round or take it off and move the spline round,

thank you tomcat it got me thinking, i got wet but very happy all done and 2wd back
are you near dover kent
