The gasket must be rare, mine doesn't have one. Might explain why it drips oil every time it's tipped on its side a bit
Hi Chaps
In regards to this post, am I clear there is only one wire gauze filter in the oil bath air cleaner or 2 filters?

I have a 2.25 diesel on a Series 2A which has the oil bath air cleaner. I can easily remove the top and base from the air cleaner and also remove the wire gauze filter that sits in the oil in the base. I do however have another gauze filter which is in the large body section or the air cleaner. I am not able to remove it. Is it just stuck in there and needs a little persuasion, or is it permanently fixed the the air cleaner body?
Thanks
Guido

Should only be one , they have a curled edge on the top circumference as you will have seen to stop them going in too deep normally where in the top body is it …top middle or bottom , should knock out tapping it around the edges bit at a time

Hi Steve
The gauze that is in the upper body is is just slightly above the lower edge of upper body and is fairly stuck in there

Right, so it looks like I have two gauze filters instead of one because one is stuck in the body. I will try and remove it and see how we go from there.

Thanks for your advice.

Guido.

Hello all I was away for a few days and have not managed to sort out the air cleaner yet.

At any rate I decided to attached some photos to better describe what I have in my air cleaner. My vehicle is a 1964 2A Series 109, which has been fitted with a Series 3 2.25 litre diesel. From the parts catalogue for the 2A series, the air cleaner shows only one gauze filter unit, however my air cleaner has two units, with one thicker than the other. The thicker unit is the one which is stuck in the main body of the air cleaner. Is it correct there should be two wire gauze filters in the air cleaner? I think I have to somehow remove the seal or gasket ring to remove the second gauze filter as I can't see it is secured by any other means.
Your advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Guido.

Righto then. I shall see if I can remove the filter in the main body of the air cleaner. If it is too difficult I shall just rinse the filter with kerosene or diesel while it is in the body of the cleaner. At least I will be able to clean the filter from the base section easily. Will be a few days away as I have other tasks to attend to first. I will keep you all posted.
Cheers
Guido
