I know this has been done to death but I have had my TD5 remapped by Dynachip and what a difference. Not had the car long and its my first TD5 and was disappointed that LR did not address the lack of low down get-up-and-go that characterised my 300tdi. Let it drop below 2000rpm and it was dead as you know but this remap had changed it beyond belief. Lots of low down torque out of junctions, up hills etc. IAs I say I know there's loads of info about it on here but just wanted to say to anyone thinking of it that I would fully recommend it.
 
He is I would agree! Did a quick diagnostic, took the trouble to explain everything and show me the graphs etc so it was an interesting experience as well as getting the result.
 
I like it when these threads appear. They remind me of what I have to come, hopefully by the end of the year.
 
Have you seen an improvement in your fuel economy at all? Quite keen to do this soon. Heard plenty of good things
 
To be honest I didn't measure it before and I doubt I will bother after so sorry I cant help you there. You can buy a lot of fuel with £250 so I cant see it ever being worth it for a fuel saving alone. My main reason for doing it was to make it more enjoyable to drive and get rid of that lack of low down grunt.
 
It goes a lot better and the cynical side of me says you don't get owt for nowt BUT I can maintain higher gears instead of changing down so maybe it is better, I don't know.
 
I have stage 2 remap and I get about 20mpg if im lucky, could not drive it standard as the power is terrible! I only paid £40 off ebay for my remapp

I've had re-mapped TD5's in the past and whilst I didn't expect, or get, a large increase in mpg, the way the car drove was absolutely "night and day" different.

Smoother, more responsive, more powerful, cleaner, maybe slightly better on fuel.

its the stage 2 part that makes fuel worse, the £300 stage one I had was better on fuel but this one gives me more power
 
I still have to blank the egr and might remove centre silencer but probably wont go beyond that. For me past experience tells me the gains diminish compared to the cost as you go further up the tuning ladder. Ive done the big intercooler thing before with other land rovers and it was never as impressive as after that first fiddle.

yeah I have huge intercooler, straight pipe from turbo to the back, no silencers just some baffles I made, egr blank, boost upto 22psi and it just costs a fortune to keep it going. warping manifold, leaking water and so on. not really worth it, just a remap and egr would have done.

Both were done at the same time so cant differentiate what each has done but it does feel quicker and when you rev it the sound is great. Its not intrusive just good when you get higher up the rec range. Im so impressed with the car now its moved from being my toy to getting used most days and Im considering selling my everyday car.

That's great news Steve, I'm really pleased that you've "turned the corner" with D2 ownership and are now in the blissful zone.

Just please don't forget that to get the very best in terms of reliability and performance, these cars need a lot more "hands-on" maintenance than LR would have you believe.

Changing oils and filters, changing coolant and brake fluid, cleaning the MAP and ECU plugs regularly, all this helps to ensure "smooth running".

Yes there's always stuff to monitor! I am now getting a whirring noise when I turn off, maybe 2 or 3 quick bursts so I am wondering if I have an air bag leak and its topping up.

Actually it's exactly the opposite ! When you get out of the car, it weighs less therefore the body rises slightly and because the system is still 'live' it compensates by letting a little air out of the bags, until the normal ride height sensor readings are achieved.

Oh well good news its just that I have never noticed it before. Perhaps I have put weight on! I am updating my radio/cd and have a bit of maintenance to do (occasional 3 amigos and shuttle valve) and one little bit of corrosion on the chassis that's very minor but don't want it getting a hold. Other than that its a top machine given that its 14 years old and other newer ones are rotting away.
