Hello there I'm fixing up and putting an engine in my father's series 3 and I noticed that it says on reg check that it was made in 1980 but wasn't registered until 1990 does this mean ex police/military. It does have rear light guards

It can also mean cock up, mine was registered in NI in 78 but when it was re registered in the UK it was done as a 1982 Series and all the engine numbers tec cocked up, it became a 4 pot when it still had its original six pot etc etc.
I have spoken to the DVLA and when it is a bit further on in the build I will sort all this out.
But just be aware transcription errors can screw various numbers up!
