Registration- choosing a user name

I don't know whether it's just me or something, but when I registered here yesterday, the user name chooser wouldn't let me choose anything. I finally figured out that I was only allowed to choose a user name with three letters (no more, no less).

I even tried mashing the keyboard to give a completely unique name, but everything got rejected.

So, I'm, left with "pet". Something my gran used to call me.
