yeah i had a detailed look at your build thread and cant see anything that point to military, and there would be a trace.

is it an original 200tdi?

the military never had 200tdi
originally it was, yeah

thats the clincher, the MOD had the non-turbo engine and the petrol v8 (in defender/90/110 flavour) then the 300tdi - they never had the 200tdi so its safe to say yours wasnt every military.

Jsut base model (which is best imo - less to go wrong)
cheers. good to know

Not totally correct. It’s vehicles registered before the 1st of January 1975 that can legally display a black & silver number plate providing they are registered with the Historic Vehicles taxation class.
So my 1976 Capri must keep the white/yellow plates that it had from day one. And yes it’s in the HVT class, so no mot or tax required at all now. :D

I stand corrected then, the source of my info. was a well known classic car publication … unfortunately I no longer have the relevant issue to refer back to.
My apologises to anyone misled by my post.

When it comes to the legalities of these old style plates, officially from April 2015 vehicles registered before the 1st of January 1975 can legally display a black & silver number plate providing they are registered with the Historic Vehicles taxation class. This is not to be confused with the rolling 40-year tax exemption. The important difference between these two pieces of legislation is that the tax exemption rolls year on year while vehicles that can display black and silver number plates is fixed at classics registered before 1975.

That is from the Heritage Classic Car Insurance Website.
