I have my Landy insured with Premium Choice (roadsure) on *classic* type insurance, even though I can get the insurance a bit cheaper elsewhere, through them I have full personal breakdown cover for any vehicle that I'm driving (and the Landy is 1991) either in the UK, or in Europe for less than £60/annum, there is no-one who can come anywhere near it, in fact I can't get the same cover for less than treble it anywhere else. so it's worth paying slightly over the odds for the insurance.
PS. I deal with various recovery companies every day, I recommend you all to check the small print and exclusions on your recovery police. There are certain companies who will not attend if you've been involved in any type of RTC, even if you've just backed into something and punctured a wheel. there are some that will not attend for a puncture if you don't have a good, legal spare wheel, the only exception is for cars that actually come out of the factory without one fitted (ie the BMW Mini etc) if you've removed it to put LPG or similar in, then they will not attend.
Some have limited call outs per annum.
Also, for all recovery companies, If you only have basic breakdown cover, they will only tow you up to 10 miles maximum.
If you're in a breakdown situation, the *Big 3* will sign you up there and then over the phone (providing you have a credit card) bit it will cost you around £150 for basic membership (ie 10 miles max) you can however for an extra cost, increase that at a later date to include full recovery.
Also, PLEASE have you recovery membership details in the car with you in case you do break down, 75% of drivers that breakdown on the motorway don't have this information, 10% don't even know who they have their recovery with!
