Reconditioning an injector pump

Has anybody ever reconditioned a diesel injector pump, I am looking at reconditioning the one on my 300tdi discovery 1997 (p). As some members know I am chasing my own tail with faults, fix one and another related problem arises.
So fat replaced the following parts:
Tank sender unit
New fuel pipe from sender to lift pump
New lift pump
New cut off soliniod
New cam belt
New idle wheel
New cam belt tensioner
New modified bottom cam belt pulley

Now the pump has given up, does not give fuel out to the injectors, plenty of diesel to pump, all components ok, timing ok as car has been running since belt change.

I looked at buying and fitting a secondhand pump but then thought after speaking to a diesel fitter that I should look at having a go at reconditioning my own, have done a search but have found no information so if anybody could advise I would be grateful
 
yes you can have the pump overhalled/recoditioned and the way forward first is go on the internet, look under diesel injection services, the next step try and get an estimate of the cost these people are not cheap, then weigh the cost against a recon unit or new none of which are cheap if you live in south wales i know of one such place and they are mature engineers who know there stuff, have you had the fuel line to the pump tested for presure. regards js

As far as the fuel line to the pump is concerened it is all new, no leaks and plenty of fuel at a good preassure

you will need some specalised tools and test machines and a lot of experience, if you aint got that all you will achive is taking the pump apart and throwing it away because youve f*cked it up :)

my advise would be take it to a specialist and pay the 250 to 300 quid for an overhaul :)

If your diagnosis is as you say, NO fuel delivery, then chances are it's an easy fix if you can find it.

These pumps can be stripped quite readily (a human being assembled it) and once you understand how the various bits perform, Bob's yer Uncle.

The pic is a Lucas DPA pump taken to bits, and these are VERY SIMPLE PUMPS compared.


HOWEVER ... if you do NOT have the experience, understanding and manual dexterity, best not try this on your only pump!

Before you start, make sure you know what settings NOT to shift, or disaster is probable.
