My rear door needs replacing again. I bought the current one second hand, repaired the rust/cracks and it has been fitted for about 6 years now. The frame has rusted through again and the locks recess has also now rusted through so I am after advice for what the best options moving forward are. I am not bothered by originality, as long as it will fit my swing away I have no preference of the type/style of rear door, I just want one which will last the longest! I currently have a wiper fitted and would like to retain this, but it does mean that I potential have all of the parts, and wiring needed on my current door should I need to swap it over. My options seems to be the below, so what would people recommend/have experience of, and where would you purchase from?

Second hand:
  1. same as I have now classic style two piece door, steel frame/ali skin
  2. later model one piece pressed steel door
New:
  1. standard classic style two piece door
  2. aftermarket later model one piece pressed steel door
  3. NOS later model one piece pressed steel door
  4. glavanised frame ali skin classic style two piece door
  5. glavanised frame galvanised steel skin classic style two piece door
  6. galvanised later model one piece pressed steel door

No one has any advice on replacement doors? I know them rusting away is a common problem everyone faces!

dag019 I would go down the new route. DDS metal services of Coventry manufacture a number of options all made by themselves I have purchased from them and found the quality to be second to none.
It is not a small company they do care about the products they make and there product line is growing all the time.
Take a look https://www.ddsmetal.co.uk/product-...ver-defender-90-110-130-td5-doors-rear-doors/

Echo the comments on DDS products. The door repair sections I used were quite well made and fitted well. Would not offer the same recommendation for SP 4x4 panels!

Do you have to be in trade to buy from them??

neilp1 I am not in the trade and have purchased from them. I contacted them by phone made an enquiry of their stock of parts I required (part Nos off their web site) All in stock they confirmed the price + delivery I asked if I could collect from them so not to deliver I was told that would be OK.
I arranged a day to collect, when I was at the factory I was given a short tour of their production facility. They have made a large investment in the most up to date equipment and are making the most of ability to produce top quality parts. I have no link in any way to this company only a very satisfied customer.

Can you give some ideas of price?

Can you give some ideas of price?
gse1986, Unfortunately I do not have my receipt I purchased a number of parts from them including the rear door I am pretty certain the price I paid was £175:00 for the door no glass fitted but I did get the aluminium window trim as part of the price. Other parts I purchased were Rear door trim panel to match my existing interior trim colour, a set of rock sliders, a snow cowl for the heater intake and a heavy duty galvanised rear crossmember (this is made from 3mm steel instead of the normal 2mm). Whilst I was on the short tour of the facility I asked a price for powder coating the galvanised crossmember (they have a powder coating plant on site) and some 300mm X 300mm pieces of checker plate. I was given for free, three pieces of checker plate "told they were just offcuts" and the powder coating was completed while I waited free of charge.
All the parts fitted correctly with no fettling to make them fit. I purchased them 18 months ago and fitted straight away so after 18 months the rock sliders have a little rust appearing but I did fit them as purchased no additional paint by me, I did not ask what the finish was assuming it was powder coated but it could have been black electrodeposition coating primer with no further painting by me hence the rusting.

Cheers - seems like a decent company - what are the doors like? Are they galvanised? Aluminium or steel skin?

I requested the same as factory fitted to my Defender, steel frame aluminium skin but I wanted no wheel carrier holes just hole for rear wiper.
Take a look at their website or contact them for the specifications they produce. The structure of the company is that they can make to your requirements if necessary.
