Mine came with an isolator switch that fits alongside the parking sensor switch, but I don't know if it can be adapted to operate the lights independently of the main beam.

Hi all! New to this forum today! Found a link from the Freelander Club website forum. Few questions on these lighting kits!
Do these light kits come with a separate on/off switch that needs fitting in the dash or do they just operate when the main headlight beam is on?
Do they integrate into an existing loom also?
What's the light output like from them?

Many thanks

Hi Mudcrawler.

Trustystead's thread on fitting the lights is here with a good picture of the cut out on the front bumper and the finished article.

The lights come on when full beam is activated, but can also be turned on/off using a new light switch that you mount in a new plastic plinth to the right hand side of the steering wheel (just above the drivers 'glove box').

There's room for two others switches in the new plinth (e.g. front and rear parking sensor on/off switches), if you chose to fit those at a later date.

All wires are supplied, it basically involves cutting sections out the front bumper, popping the lights in and connecting them to an existing cable.
Then you can get off the floor and go back to the engine/interior connecting the wires up inside the vehicle (or beforehand actually) using the old coat hanger wrapped with sticky tape method, to pull the cables from the engine bay down into the feet area of the vehicle. Pop the new switch unit on inside the car, and voila.

Instructions on how to do it are in the box, and also online.

Hi,
glad you found my info useful.
Mudcrawler the pods dont stick out very far from the front of the car due to the curvature of the bumper so they are almost inline with the number plate id say it was with in about 1cm of the number plate probably less. When I get mine back il take a picture for you unless you have already purchased some.
Yes quite possibly covers (havent seen the advert), when I bought my kit it came with covers for them, to be honest tho I dont see the need for putting them on.

I paid £31 for mine from an ebay seller called disco123rrdef, so it is worth looking for the ones that are on auction rather than Buy it now.

My wife was not keen on them cause of the size of them sticking out, but now they are on she has agreed that they look good.

cheers for everyones posts....

so basicly saying....driving lamps cannot be powered independant from main beam....

if thats what i want......then its the fog kit for me!!!!....

any veiws on which gives the better light?....

cheers guys

ebay ere i come!!....

Fog lights give a low level broad spread of light - "under" the fog, rather than being reflected back at yer from a wall of fog.

That's why they can be used with just the sidelights on.

Driving/Spot lamps are intended to be bright additional lamps for distance view and must only be used in association with High Beam.

When High Beam is on, the Lamps can be switched on or off independantly,
but,
they must go off when High Beam is switched off - down to Low Beam so that other drivers are not dazzled
