hello..

my 1998 freelander 5 door seemes to have developed a strange problem, the rear screen window will lower so that it is fully open and will raise until it it fully closed but i cannot get it to stop anywhere between the two.

i always used to be able to lower it a few inches or stop it anywhere i wanted it.

the only thing i have done recently is replace the battery in the key fob.

i have tried to re-set it by disconnecting the battery for 10secs and then raise the window but it still wont stop anywhere in the middle.

any help would be greatly appreciated

im sure i used to be able to cos when the dog was in the back i would put it down just far enough for her to pop her head out..strange but thanks

The rear glass can be stopped anywhere you wish - but only on the way down.

Once it is fully open it must be closed all the way up - if you try stopping it half-way up it will go all the way down again.

If you disconnect the battery the window will go all the way down when you reconnect. You must then close it all the way up in one go - without stopping.

Same applies if you re-new the battery in the remote.

Loads of folks have rear-windows that have not been properly calibrated, and they don't know that.

have just worked out that on the very first operation of the rear window after starting the car i can stop the window anywhere i want on the downward action.

but as soon as it has gone fully down it will only stop when fully up or fully down.

also as soon as it has gone fully down when ever you put it up and stop the window before it reaches the top it will automatically drop back to the bottom.

it is like the motor or switch is confused???

thanks for that... that makes things a little less worse... i can stop the window on the downward action the first time i try but after that first stoppage it will only ever stop at the bottom or at the top..is that right singvogel??

No - it is not confused - it is still waiting to be calibrated.

Start again by first disconnecting the battery.

When you reconnect raise the window fully WITHOUT stopping.

Hi, elte1,

I wrote post #7 as a reply to your post #5 i.e. before reading post #6 - see the times?

After reading your post #6 I would say that your window is operating correctly.

It can be stopped anywhere - but only on the way down.

Don't know why LR designed it like this - but that is how it is meant to work.

Sorry for confusion. Leave it as is.

Mine used to stop anywhere I wanted up or down, now I can only stop it on the way down, but after it goes half way down it goes right down and I cannot stop it......Then its all the way back to the top again..........its mad!!!:der:

Now I have had this rear door/wiper mech apart so many times its unbeliavable, Once I dissasemble the wiper motor fiddle about with the inards and put it all back together, it works as it should can be stopped up or down, then after a while it goes back to doing what it wants.......

I give up with it now, as long as it stays shut i`m happy...

Just wait until ya tailgate glass explodes with a loud bang when you switch the rear window heater on this winter....... Thats when you will have problems..
