Please can anyone offer me some advise,My Freelander 2.0 xedi 98 has started making a whirring/grinding noise when driven at high and low speeds sounds like wheel bearings but from center, also rear tyres have raised in the middle, though i have no problem with steering.

Hi Jonathon.f
My daughters 1998 2.0 Freelander had a similar problem at 130K. A grinding noise at low speeds. I replaced the 2 centre drive shaft bearings and this fixed the problem. I had to use a press to remove the old bearings, otherwise a straight forward job for a handy person.

Thankyou Rob.B
Just found out it was the two rear propshaft bearings and centre rear diff mount.Good job I didn't let nationwide garage fix as they had diagnosed that the rear diff was knackered also had ruined 4 tyres. If only these garages knew what they were talking about.
Great forum loads of help
cheers jon

Don't get me started on nationals. Had 4 new tyres on earlier and the guy tried to tell me all sorts of problems with brakes etc. Car runs perfect, just had new MOT and extensive service 2 days ago and they are always looking for work.

Get a trusted independant and stick with em or DIY if you have time/tools.
