rear trailimg arm bushes

Had my mot on the disco yesterday it passed but rear trailing arms bushes are perished where meet the chassis. Ive got a full set of polybushes but there for a range rover classic. They look the same so is it ok to fit these to the disco or should a buy for the disco
 
Good stuff saved a few quid there then cheers mate. Are the polybushes better than the standard bushes look better and easier to fit
 
Just fit polybushes, easier to replace. Fit dry unless the packaging tells you to. The metal bushes will last longer probably but swopping a polybush is a dream compared, so easy for diy mechanic to go poly
 
Plenty of grease inside the metal sleeve though - I've had a couple of bolts/sleeves sieze on the fronts and had to use a slitting disc to cut the bolt/sleeve in situ without grinding the bracket or radius arm.

I always grease during fitting, no reason why not, grease and oil don't attack polyurethane.
 
Yes sorry grease the bolt going through the bush with copper slip but urethane bushes themselves arent necessarily to be greased into their recess. What can happen is the bush itself starts to rotate in its recess and this wears after the grease deteriorates. They start squeaking and will not perform as they should due to the wear. The bush should sit tight in the part it fits into, the flex of the bush comes from the material itself not any rotation of the whole bush. So I would msintain only using grease if its provided in the bush packaging or as directed to by instructions

I am sure there is a theoretical risk of that, and I agree the bush should not move in the arm. But I haven't actually had an issue with it on the ones I have fitted.

What I do think is important, whether fitting poly or metalastic bushes, is to let the vehicle down on the ground and bounce it up and down to settle the suspension before doing up the bolts.
