hi ya guys,
hope you can help with an easy question...i hope :)
i have a freelander 1 ’99’ reg, the rear window stopped working while it was down, so the usual block of wood is there to hold it up for a while.
got the new cable for the bottom section as it snapped and wound itself around the wheel in the motor so needed a new one of them as well, my problem is, with it all apart, how do i proceed, window clamps at bottom of runners or top, wind all cables fully round the motor wheel ?
does the motor know if its up or down or do i need to somehow make it set to a certain position.....hope you get what i mean,
and cheers for your help

if you can winder the motor until it stops either in up position or down then but best in down as you can get at the bolts then but do not fully tighten them up but wind the window up and down so it gets it own position then tighten.

ok, thanks i think i get it, would i need to completely wind the motor drum up with the cable or will this sort itself out as well?

the cables need to be tightish so there is no hysteresis when starting the motor from down to up etc, and the whole assembly needs to be balanced so the window isn't slanted so to speak.

I reckon, and its an educated guess, that the computer works out where the top and bottom are by the simple process of detecting high motor current when the mechanism stalls.

When I replaced my whole regulator - motor rails and all, what I did was wind it down all the way and keep me finger on the switch for 10 seconds, then shut the tailgate and wind it up all the way, and keep me finger on the switch for 10 seconds. After that it seemed to know where it was...
