rear prop dounut and Morse chain

Hi, On my 4.0l r reg p38 I have never had a rubber dounut between the rear diff and propshaft and as far as I can tell, not had any problems...

Time for a refurb on the undercarriage, is it worth fitting one and does it actually do anything in the real world..??

Also looking for a new, affordable, transfer box Morse chain. Any suggestions on what brand to avoid and best current prices. ??

I thought the rubber doughnut was only for the diesel

Petrol has 2 UJ's.

Just done the propshafts on a 4.6 and a 4.0. Neither had the rubber doughnut.

Rubber drive is not fitted to petrol models or manual diesels. Only to diesel automatics.

You are both correct...I am the doh'nut
Any pointers for a Morse chain...I'm pretty sure there's one in my Transfer box although with the noise its making, who knows what I will find. 😀

Depends how bad it is. If the chain is knackered you can bet the sprockets it sits on are not happy either. And that is an all new ball game.

any oil in the transfer box?

Don't know yet, want to source and price bits and bobs for job before stripping, to see if it is doable!!!
If too much cash then I can put up with the noise.
Got waterpump and timing cover gaskets to do first. ....and that means a service at the same time.
Will keep you updated.

Get your oil level checked asap. You just may avoid serious damage if its empty.

Putting up wth a noise isn't really the way to go about it. Check your oil at least..

Checked, Oil level is fine, oil condition is excellent as It was done recently.
At this stage, as I said, I'm just sourcing and pricing potential bits and bobs, not asking which way to undo a nut. &#55357;&#56617;&#55357;&#56617;&#55357;&#56617;
I'm have found prices for many things nowadays can be massively variable, apparently sometimes depending on the time of day.

Well he's done the oil check now so wont have to be sourcing a new casing if everything had let go inside.
