I need to replace the coupling on my rear prop and was wondering how difficult/awkward it is to replace.
Any special, fancy dancy tools required to make life easier like a prop socket. Or will a standard socket and ring spanner do the job?

I've got a 2" lift and going to stick another donut on instead of a 200tdi prop.

Will I likely run into any issues ?

And is it just a case of undoing the bolts, removing the donut, fitting new donut, and doing the bolts back up

On my D2 I have removed the rear prop already a few times and the 3 bolts/nuts connecting the prop to the rubber coupling was easy to remove. I guess the other 3 which are connecting the coupling to the diff flange also not difficult.

The three holding the prop to the donut have the nut at the back and were quite easy on mine. The three holding the donut to the Diff Flange were a bit more weathered through being more exposed, but still came off fairly easily after soaking for an hour or so with pen oil. The new donut should come with new bolts and nuts. :)

The rear doughnut is fairly easy to replace on its own. Use only a GKN unit.
When the new item is fitted, make sure that it's installed the right way round, there are little arrows on the outside which should point to the mating faces. New bolts and nyloc nuts are usually supplied. For some reason, the nuts and bolts on the prop shafts are 9/16 AF, rather than the nearest metric size, so you might find that a prop shaft socket might be of use, they are available on the bay.

If you're going to go the whole hog and change the centering bush at the same time, then you're likely to run into some difficulties, that isn't easy to get the old one off or the new one fitted. I've never done the job myself, but when I bought the Disco I asked the sales place to change it for me, which they did but said, "Don't ever ask us to do that job again!"

+1 - DEFFO ONLY use a GKN - the patterns ones are crap - ask me how I know

The centering bush is actually quite easy ... when you know how ;) .... Use bread (!), and a close fitting punch ..... pack the center hole with bread, and keep packing said hole with the punch ... and repeat as required until the bush is forced out.... there are vids on the tube of you demonstrating this technique - often to remove a spigot bush in a crankshaft :) .... if the bush is worn, it's worth changing out cos it'll put load on the new coupling ....
