Rear of Transfer Box Leak

I'm finally getting around to sorting a few of my leaks out on me Landy.

However, I'm having a bit of a problem with removing the problem seal.

This is what I had as a leak:

I've removed the drum, nylock nut etc and am left with this, however, I have no idea where to go next at this stage. This is where I'm at:

Can someone point me in the right direction to remove the seal please? :doh:

check flange where seal runs is good they do wear ,seal just levers out ,fill inside of seal with grease etc to hold garter spring if tapping back,you will feel when its sat in far enough
 
Checked the flange, everything is still smooth and shiney...just want to get the seals out now to take to Paddocks to ensure I have the correct ones.

Ahh...just tightened it up haha...will undo again and run a bead of silicone around shaft and flange joint!

Quick question regarding the refill plug for the transfer box. Is it anti clockwise to undo like the majority of bolts? I don't want to turn it anti clockwise then realise I'm actually over tightening it! It's just quite tight, that's all.

p.s thanks for the part no. James...you confirmed the same no. as I've purchased, so all good (with the all important "g" on the end!)

While I'm at it, what's the easiest way to fill the transfer box up with EP80? Is it best to remove the centre cubby box and cover, a funnel and a bit of hose? I dnt have a pump or anything, that's all.

One day, I hope it'll be me answering these stupid questions :eek:

theres a saying of righty titie lefty losee as you are looking at the bolt or nut 99% on the time the other will be left handed or counter threaded:D
 
I didn't know that about the "l" marked on the shaft! Learn somat new everyday!

Left it is then...it's rate tight, I know that...impact wrench is going on the thing in a min if a bit of heat doesn't shift it!

As John says, transfer box filler is left (anti clockwise) to undo. 1/2" square

Mine was so tight I couldn't believe it - ended up having to jack the landy to get a longer handled socket wrench on it!

It partially hiding behind the handbrake housing doesn't help of course!

That said, it was a piece of p*ss compared to undoing the 32mm gearbox drain plug!
 
Well, I've just had both feet on it trying to turn the thing and it's not shifting. I'm going to get a longer handle on it I think. Impact wrench is charging up in the meantime!

Why do the 5 min jobs take 5 hours? Or is that just me? Looks so easy in the tutorials! lol

Both feet - now that's impressive. Wonder if someone put some hylomar on the thread last time!

My best yet is going to remove the tyre valve dust caps, finding them stuck solid, and ending up cutting all 5 off with an angle grinder!

Could only get a short 90 degree bit on my transfer box, so impact wrench was no good - you must have more room

Yep - longer handle, and 'shock it' with some well placed hammer blows on the handle

Keep going!
 
Wahoo...she's all oiled up now! The impact wrench couldn't even undo it, even though it undid the big nyloc nut on the shaft, so it must have been tight. It was a case of taking the centre lid off the seat box and used a long handle ratchet, it soon came away. Best feeling ever!

Just gotta tackle the rear axle now, but I've had enough for today, as I'm currently sat here looking like I've been wokking down pit!
