Rear indicators

MOT fail yesterday on exhaust. Fair enough. First one in over 8 years.

I got a couple of avisories as well. One was white visible in rear indicator clusters. Tester said to replace the bulbs with amber ones.

It seemed a pragmatic low cost solution.

Might be of use to others.

Not a bad solution, but would an amber lamp in an amber lens give the required intensity of light (i.e. be bright enough)??

I wondered that. A touch of glass paint on the lens clear spots would be another alternative

Are the lenses amber or the later clear ones?, don't think I've ever seen amber ones 'wearing thin', the colour goes all the way through. The amber bulbs in the clear clusters however are prone to their orange lacquer falling off . . . I've had to replace them for just that reason.

Now, it's funny you should say that. I looked today and have clear lenses

The rear lamp clusters are something I really don't like on P38s so I suppose I've instinctively ignored them. The front clusters had anber lenses, not sure about the rear. The bloke I bought mine from made a big thing about it having the light upgrade. I can't say that it's the sort of thing that excites me.

The square XJ6's rear clusters were ugly as well.

If it had the 'Light Upgrades' it will have clear lenses on the front too and also the headlamp internal surround will be blackened!
