Rear hub recommendations

I have oil leaking from the nearside rear hub on my S2 even after pulling the half shaft and replacing the O ring. Guess I need a new TAY100050 hub or more importantly a pair. Can anyone recommend the most cost effective supplier? I saw these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144072893676 with a 5 year warranty. Anybody fitted these before?

Funnily i recently noticed exactly the same thing on my hub only replaced about 3 years ago. Same wheel and all.
Guy i know in the biz says "All aftermarket hubs are cr@p. they only last 10k kms or so, go for LR only."
Enter at their prices?

Rather get a LR secondhand one.

Today I had the vehicle up on stands to replace the exhaust system, so thought I might as well pull the half shaft and have a look at the axle O ring seal following blowing out the axle breather and clearing the hole into the rear axle casting. The oil seal was somewhat shredded which would have been the cause of the leak. Could have been it caught when I was installing the half shaft last time maybe. The old hub was cleaned up around the O ring retaining groove, where corrosion had started to take a hold, greased and a new O ring installed, hopefully more carefully this time.
Maybe someone can explain how the sealing works, for as I see it oil can still enter into the rear of the main bearing (the ABS sensor ring cavity was full) then exit at the front of the bearing? Does the main bearing have an internal oil seal maybe?
Incidentally I tried to drill out the broken back plate retaining bolt whilst this lot was stripped down. After innumerable drill breakages I gave up and concurred that the tiny bolt is indeed made of Tungsten and not for mere mortals like myself to drill and remove. It's remains are deeply buried in the axle casting and a blob of blue bubble gum now holds the back plate in place.
Why do I feel I will be revisiting this part of the damn car again soon?

I would careful of cheap hubs, some have turned out to not have the correct number of teeth on the reluctor ring which works with the abs sensor. You end up with a abs fault light on.I bought these and we’re good https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/t...eel-bearinghub-unit-discovery-2-1242007-p.asp

Do not buy cheap hubs, they dont last

Thank you Westone, but I wonder if anyone has ever paid less than £90 for a hub that lasts, for there certainly are a lot out there cheaper, including the Rimmers item at £73 which I guess is probably a Bearmach item?

I’ve paid 40 odd quid for a hub that has lasted. I got it off eBay a good 3 years ago, or longer. I’d need to check my purchased items to be sure though.

Hi, I had the same dilemma with my front hub choice last month in the end I went for a Optimal one which are meant to be 'German quality'. It has only done a couple of hundred miles since fitting so I can't comment on longevity but it did have sixty teeth on the reluctor ring so I had no issues with the three amigos.
