First of all merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone.
So far I have had quite an eventful holiday season. On Saturday night we had our 300 TDi rear ended by a drunk driver in a little Clio (stupid woman). She hit the osr area and submarined under the Diso as it is fitted with a lift kit. The bumper was lifted up so the rear door wont open but there doesn't seem to be too much panel damage. But it seems the rear axle took most of the force as the rear drivers side wheel is now touching the wheel arch and is undriveble. The drunk was about 19 - 20 and was so ****ed she couldn't even write down her insurance details. The police were called and they managed to sort her details from her licence plate. It seems that her dad is a Copper so I imagine she was in for a bollocking. The Disco was recovered by Norwich Union and I was given a number to call to arrange a courtesy car the following morning. I was fobbed off with a fiesta to begin with but complained that a family of 6 wouldn't fit in it, as a result I hav now ended up with a spanking new Disco 3 SE. What an awesome vehicle, they can take as long as they want to sort out my vehicle as I'm in Disco heaven at the moment. Shame it's got to end some day soon.

nice one, hopefully ur disco's not too burgered!

where you a cat in a previous life?

I don't know anything about the extent of the damage yet as Norwich Onion are still tucking into left over turkey like the rest of us. Thinking about it I don't even know where the Disco is, it just got carted off at 3:00 in the morning. Still, I've got a brand spanker so I'm not going to pester them too much. Not sure about being a cat in a previous life. If I was to fall into a barrel full of tits I'd come up sucking my thumb. :D

could be anywhere, years ago my dad was involved in an accident wi his honda goldwing, it was taken over 100miles to a garage where they pronounced it a write off, but only because of the age and extorsional cost of new shiny chrome bits!! only had a bent chromed engine gaurd!!!

Why dint he ride it home then?

good point! i think he did and the insurance company sent a truck round to take it way for the inspection.... it were a saga anyhoo's, he got it back off them in the end but it was a fair battle, then came the compensation claim from the passenger of the car that drove in to him!!

yup but if your rear axle is touching the bodywork some serious damage has been done. also were your insurance aware that you had a 2 inch lift kit on it. enjoy the disco 3. it might not last too long e and you might end up with the thiumb in yer mouth again

Actual insurance was arranged through Sureterm and I have all the modifications listed and catered for (all in writing on the insurance policy). It will be a shame if it is written off as it is an imaculate Jap import County, not a spot of rust anywhere. Oh well, maybe I could use the pay out as a deposit on a nice Disco 3 - not too sure how I would make the monthly payments on the balance though.

If they won't fix it for you ask for a look - you will probably find its the sort of thing you could fix for the sake of some new trailing arms, brake pipes probably if its moved that much, A frame perhaps... Even if the chassis has been damaged a bit a good mechanic will get it sorted. However the insurnace company don't see this and could write it off.

one reason they write things orf is that they use dealer rates fer repairs and parts. so what they can add up to reach hundreds someone with a source of cheap or free parts can do themselves fer pennies.

You want it back what ever way it goes, even if you dont repair it you can make a profit out of the whole episode by breaking it, esp with all the goodies on it.

Ferengi twentythird rule of aquisition :D

I'll have to wait for the insurance companies decision (still might be repairable). The problem I've got is lack of space and too many cars already. I have a Mondeo TDCi with a duff starter motor, a Saab 9000 with a blown head gasket, a Corsa with brake problems, a Pug 306 that will need to be scrapped at the end of January, the bended Discovery and a half built MK Indy kit car in the garage.
I really need to sort out the cars I already own, oh and
Finish the conservatory,
New suite in down stairs loo
New kitchen
New bathroom suite
uPVC cladding on front of house
Change back garden from "Battle of the Somme" to a landscaped paradise
And total redecoration from top to bottom.
Looks like 2008 (and probably 2009) is going to be a busy time :(

The situation is clear.
You have a policy which entitles you to INDEMNITY, and remember, the car is yours until YOU decide to give it up.

If they start talking writing it off, you start talking "CASH IN LIEU OF REPAIRS".

INDEMNITY (which is what you have paid for) means you ending up in the same financial situation after the claim is settled, that you were in before the crash. Cash in lieu is an attractive option to insurers as they will end up forking out a little less, and they may end up settling sooner, which save the hire car bills too.

Yesterday I was rear ended too in my 1993 v8i:mad: thankfully also with tow bar:D. dunno if the other guy was drunk tho as he just drove off:eek:, how I do not know as his bonnet was totaled and I saw his headlamp fly past my side window! Immediately after I lost 2nd and 4th and was warned by various people that Disco gearboxes were not up to much:(. Happily the doom merchants were proved wrong and a couple of hours on a ramp at a local mechanic and 70 quid sorted it:p. Apparently some plate in the linkage got bent over. Glad I was in my Disco tho and not my usual Pan European Bike or the story would have had a less happy ending I suspect:rolleyes:. Happy New Year.

Did you get the other guys number before he buggered off?
My Discovery is now with Brin Jones body shop in Bristol so they can assess the damage. They are going to take a look on Monday then let me know what the outcome is. Brin Jones are a Porsche repair specialist and dont appear to Land Rover specialists but they are Norwich Union approved repairers so that's why it has ended up there. I'll let everyone know what conclusions they come to as soon as they contact me.

I finally got some feedback from the Body shop that have my Discovery. They have had it on the ramps and found that apart from needing a new rear bumper and minor body repair in the rear drivers side the rest of the damage is to suspension components. Apparently they are waiting for prices from Land Rover (main dealer prices). I asked the guy on the phone if he realised that I had a lift kit fitted to which he replied "oh crap". I guess that was a no then. Any how that seemed to **** on his pomme frittes and they are going to have to try and source lift kit parts from else where. Trouble is I can't help as the kit was fitted when the vehicle was in Japan and I don't know what make it is. All I know is it's all blue components. Anyway I've still got the Disco 3 so they can take their time. :)
