Hi all,

The seat bottom in one of my inward facing rear seats has just collapsed, which has spurred some further thought.

We’ve got another little one en route and we currently always have one of the adults clambering in the back whilst the other drives.

I’d like to be able to use the 90 for all four in due course, so I’ve been looking at the exmoor loc n fold seats as they look like a great solution.

2 slight concerns on those seats though;

1) no gap between the seats to be able to get in. This, to be honest, is less of a problem for me, they little ones will be fine clambering in and out.

The one that’s vexing me more though is

2) when both seats are down in the back it’s likely there’ll be more boot space in my GR Yaris.

So, the point of all the above is to say has anyone ever seen someone replace the rear spare wheel with some sort of storage device. If I could keep some sort of space to store bags/shopping/beach stuff, then it makes the decision on the seats a lot simpler. I’ve already got a lot of wood in the car, so was thinking about something wooden to tie in with everything.

My thoughts were something that looks like a spare wheel but hinges at the front as a storage box.

I’m not concerned about lack of spare as I’d be astounded if I got a flat with the BF all terrains I’ve got on there just from mainly road use.

Has anyone seen anything like that on a defender before? If not, do you think it would look crap and or be pointless?

TIA, all comments for and against would be welcome.

If you are concerned about the look then fit a spare wheel cover and it will look original. This is possibly what I would be looking to do anyway just from a security point of view. If you make it look like a spare wheel rather than storage no one is going to break into it. But you can get all sort of external storage solution at varying cost, try adding "overland" to the search you are doing.

OR

And I know it is not what you are going to want to hear, trade the 90 for a 110. I have just rebuilt my 110 from a hard top into a station wagon due to a first child and now a second on the way (there is a thread on here cataloguing the body rebuild and swap) I did not want to, I still prefer it as a hardtop, but needs must for family life.
