rear door speakers

The D2 tailgate amp and loudspeakers is the same as fitted to the D1, which has a sticky label stating Philips as the brand. :(
If this is the case, then the ICE system in my D1 Anniversary is the same.
I had it from original and there was no "menu" to set up the gain to the subs.
They were just "there". The head unit is pretty antediluvian and I only took it out cos the disc player gave up the ghost.
I've just dug it out to have a look and sure enough no separate controls for the sub other than just the "treble bass" knob.
And a black plug on the back with two thin wires, one black one red.
All of which is what made me say that I thought the wires to the sub amp was "line level".
Maybe @discool could shed some light on what the original set-up actually was.
Oh and thanks @discool for making me dig my old head unit out as while doing so i found some long lost and really decent jump leads!!!

That was the same with my discos original Philips head unit, level output to the Philips tailgate loudspeakers was pre set by the Philips in the manufacture, plug n play you might say I assume thats the same with all factory fit ICE systems.

When you come to fit an aftermarket head unit is when installation gets interesting, with setting up amplifier levels to get thr best sound without distortion, bridging to mono to match as selected via the mono sub pre out.
I downloaded 4 pages on the subject from the Crutchfield site.

The Kenwood amp operation manual is 18 pages and the head unit, well thats 51 pages everything is push button of menu driven

My Pioneer unit Pre-out level is preset 500mV, which is OK for my ‘sub in a box’, and also the tailgate amp, so when I remove the box to give me some extra boot space i can switch power over to the tailgate loudspeakers and then readjust the crossover frequency and bass in the menu.
Crossover settings are 50 Hz, 80 Hz 125 Hz, so move from either 50 or 80 to 125.

Thanks mate, this is really useful stuff as I have fitted a Blaupunkt head unit and disc player in the D1 and there is a Kenwood in the D2, fitted by a previous owner, and like you say, i downloaded the manual and it is very long. Ideally I'd like to mend or replace the subs in the D1 and then wire them in to the Blaupunkt unit, I have no subs in the D2 with the Kenwood but I do have two door pockets on the tailgate and could use one of them to fit subs like in the D1. I'll have to give the manual a good looking at and do some further research before doing this, I have a feeling there will not be a dedicated line out from the Kenwood but i haven't looked at the back of it nor the wiring diagram in the manual.
There deffo isn't one from the Blaupunkt.
