Hi guys, I see there are some posts on this problem with the cable snapping but I wanted to post an incentive for newbies.
Both my rear windows didn't work and new regulators were to much money for a bit of passenger comfort but as I bought a full set of wind deflectors I had to get the windows down to fit them, plus in the car wash the windows hadn't sealed properly and my car got soaked inside.
Long story short, these regulator repair kits for the door windows on eBay are cheap at just £6.95 each side.
They look complicated and as I've never done the fix before I almost bought the new regulators used at £45 each, I did however buy these kits and I'm glad I did..
It's not a bad fix at all, I spent less than an hour on each side including removing the regulators from the doors and fitting them back in.
Do it yourself and save yourself £65.
The only thing to remember is the plastic bit that the wire wraps round, put it upside down wraps the cables as the YouTube video shows you then turn it back around, it's fiddly as you have the spring resistance fighting you but once you get that bit done don't just let go of it, place your motor on and turn the whole reg over to put some screws in, I would have never bothered for the sake of 50 quid but anyone and everyone should have a go at this.

I've been looking at a few of those kits on ebay, all various prices, but looking at them, pretty much the same thing.

I know a few people who have bought them, only to say that they've gone again a fortnight later. It sounds like you've managed to obtain some decent ones which is good.

I don't suppose you've got the ebay item number for the ones you've bought have you?? It'll just save folks searching through reems of listings.

Thanks again though, it's a shame you ain't living nearer to Tropical Manchester, your help would have been much appreciated, but I'm sure I'll manage to do mine, along with a few swear words along the way!!:)

Hi mate, below I will attach 2 pictures one contains the item number.
This item number is for the left one but once your on this you can click the sellers other items if you need the right one.
The kits come with a white plastic runner clip, on my car these were too big for my runner so I used my original metal ones.
I thought I'd have completed them with a red face and veins popping out but it was honestly a good little job to do.
They are holding up brilliant no problems at all, if fitted correctly it's only a cable nothing can go wrong, especially if like me you use all the original parts possible, try and stick a bit of grease over the cable and pull it through the cases a couple times, that makes it run smoother and protect from rust which is the cause of the cable snapping in the first place.
I'll also attach a screenshot of the video on YouTube that I watched 3 times, I then used it start stop if I got stuck.
You'll enjoy it allot especially when the window works again and it only cost you £7 :)

Ah well. Mine seemed to be good quality for the money.
Agree they are not that bad to fit once you figure it out, the youtube guy makes it look easier than it is tho

Haha if they do the job anything less than £30 is a bargain as not many people will tackle this fix.

I sat here and watched the video with my brother and I said to him yeah he's making that look like a 2 minute job, it won't be anything like that.
If I'm honest there are 2 main bits that were fiddly but more than manageable.
1) getting the regulator out of the door.
2) getting the tension on the springs.

Both fiddly jobs, but a can't stress enough when you put the wheel on that the motor drives you must put it on upside down, when you come to getting the springs tensioned if you twist and it's not on the wrong way round it won't be right and you'll have to start again.
 
I hit lucky with my drivers door regulator, I think the seller listed it wrong as it was the same price including motor as others they were selling without but fair play to them they sent it anyway.

Wow that is lucky.
Some people do make mistakes, a few years ago I had a turbo golf gti and the turbo blew, I searched for about 2 months trying to get something sensible priced, just when I got to a point of selling the car spares or repair someone listed a KO3s Turbo (original KO3) for £195 plus £10 postage..
I didn't ask questions I clicked buy it now and this turbo turned up looking new with no play at all and I went on to sell the car for 2 grand because it had the upgraded turbo on it.
I bet the guy was kicking himself as a standard turbo was going to cost me £400 plus a surcharge of £110 if I didn't send my old turbo back, well I listed the old one on eBay for spares 25 quid starting price and it sold for 48 quid..

I can feel a How To coming on ;). If you can make one I think it would be very popular. I've never had a Freelander with a sunroof but they get a very bad reputation.

He was probably happy in his ignorance. Some peeps have no idea of the value of stuff and many don't even care but very lucky for you :).
 
I think you might be right, I'm not sure what the demand is for a video, I have seen allot of posts about them sunroofs though and people do repair them, I just don't think vague descriptions of how it's done is enough for me.
I wish I didn't have a sunroof as I have air conditioning anyway but hey too spec has it all so I'm stuck with it lol.
 
Cables ordered DannyTD4, can't wait for them to get here now. Hopefully all will go smooth.

Just one other thing is really starting to do my swede in now, its the dreaded rear courtesy light.

Front courtesy light, map reading lights, boot light and vanity lights on mirror all work great. I'm going to order some LED's to brighten the car up, and the standard bulbs are like wet dimps!

I've bought a new bulb for the rear courtesy light, still won't work. Stuck a tester on it, it appears dead, no power. No sign of water ingress either, its bone dry.

I'm assuming that they are all on the same fuse, and not some kind of separate one? It's only a small issue, but it's starting to grate!:mad: I've checked the search facility but nothing relates to my specific issue.

Too right Alibro, I didn't even know there was one there as it's tucked away on the slope of the headlining! It's only when I gave someone a lift home the other week at night time, they got in the back and started moaning that they couldn't see anything when putting their seatbelt on. It's done my box in ever since!:confused:
 
Sounds like a plan! I started off with my Should's, Would's and Could's. Once I've done all my Should's, my Would's become my Should's and Could's become my Would's. I think I'll shove it in my Could's pile.:confused: lol

Wicked, you'll have to keep me posted, if my help helps you then at least I've done something this week lol.

That rear light I had the same issue, I just change my bulb for a brilliant white led and all was well, the LED's do only go in 1 way, they won't work both ways.

If the whole light seems dead flick the switch on and check again, if there is still nothing get one on eBay, I bought a new one for £12 the other day and then cancelled the order as I managed to rescue my old one with the led round the right way :)

I'm not that much of a whizz with these cars yet I'm still learning but if you want better answers post the issue someone will help.

I'd almost guarantee that the light is buggered as they all run off the same fuse, well at least they do in mine I blew my fuse twice and had all sorts of issues which these guys here helped me fix.
Cost me a £35 courtesy light as I fried the original ooops.

As for LED's, I bought mine from halfords, they have offers on at the moment I got the 2 courtesy lights £7.99
2 map lights £4.99
Then today I went to get the bulbs for glove box and boot light got home and they are not the same as the map lights so I've upgraded my sidelights .
The first pic below is what is in the courtesy lights and glove box.
The second pic is map lights, side lights and number plate lights.
The boot light is a normal car bulb like you get in the tail lights, can get led upgrades for that but it's something I've not looked into yet.
