Rear door lock - Replace existing or get a van lock?

Hi Guys,

After replacing the barrel in my rear door lock, the actual locking mechanism is now not working at all! The door lever just lifts up with no resistance at all.

Is there an easy fix for this?

If not the way i see it i have 2 options...
1-replace the existing lock mechanism
2-get a deadbolt style van lock that bolts on the outside

Has anyone done this? Is the deadbolt system more secure than the original locks? Are there any doen sides to a bolt on system?

A decent deadbolt will be more secure, but unless you're very worried about security a replacement lock will be an easier job, and retain originality.

An obvious high security lock may also interest some scrotes who may want to 'see' what you are hiding!

geroge is it a vehicle without seats in the back you have?
The reason is it must be possible to open the rear door from the inside if it is able to carry passengers in the rear.
You will need to keep this in mind with the locking mechanism you choose.

It is a vehicle which people occasionally sit in the back of yes but not all the time.
I'm looking at something like this: Amazon product
I don't want something that locks as soon as the door is shut as that will be a pain when there are people in the back.
The main reason i want a decent lock is i'm a photographer and sometimes have to leave kit in the car when on location. My insurance is only valid if the car is securely locked so I just wondered if it's worth replacing the standard lock. The price is more or less the same!
