awesome , what worked in the end plse, if u don’t mind me adding if the actuator or handle has been playing up would change it asap, would at least remove the lower tailgate panel whilst it’s open so then at least if it does fail again in the mean time ur be one step ahead

personally I use Lithium grease spray on the actuator components, electrical spray for the connectors

must admit for earths connections I’ll just use coppaslip , have found the mannol very good , on some connectors I’ll clean them prior to putting some heat shrink over them to try and prevent the ingress of water / salt etc

Alas think it will be a good 12-18 months , need to save enough for all the deposits and moving costs

When I make up a kit car loom I solder the connections then put heatshrink on.
with existing connectors I clean them all with abrasive, I have a special little tool, like a propelling pencil where you push out a load of glass fibre threads, works an absolute treat, like this but a bit different.

then I put them together and use the sort of insulating tape that stretches as you pull it.
The thinking being, "If I ever need to get it off, I'll be able to easily. "

sounds like u do the same mate , like the brush , many thks , funny enough bought myself some terminal files , found a lot of green build up on the terminals of my TCM , supposed to be because of the bonnet seal shrinking over time and allowing water ingress , also got some dentists picks which I’ve found very useful getting right at the back of the terminals , or I’ll take the pins out , more tools, lol

however a little while ago I bought all new window trims, plus external A pillar trims , finally I’ll put my smoke machine inside the cabin to track any water ingress, seals leaking so don’t get any whistling down the motorway

maybe we should do a general thread in the discovery section of all the different tools and ideas , what do u think plse

Brill idea, i've just had a look.
all you need it the high speed watercooling dentists drill, (and a pretty assistant) and you can moonlight as a dentist.
The NHS is crying out for them.:):):):D:D:D

yikes I can hear the water drill from here, lmao ;), think it haunts everyone

so an SDS drill with a hose pipe attached won’t cut it then, dam ;);)
 
I unleashed my secret weapon to get it open...... Wife. She prodded the handle this way and thata way and away it went!! I've took the carpet off the lower part of the tailgate as recommended. Ill get an auto electrician to look at it in the week. Cheers for the advice.

ur so welcome and glad it helped u , always a team effort on this forum

That’s fantastic it’s now open and removed the lower panel, , sometimes it can just be a bad connection, not wishing to try and teach u how to suck eggs but there’s plenty of us here to help and talk u through it u get stuck to save u the expense of an auto electrician as indeed costs can start to run away

what ever u decide and if u do go down the auto route plse let us know how things go
