Rear Door Drop Down Table

Hey Togo -
I have a Series IIA. I thought about a similar thing. So I decided to use the liftgate eyelets which are already on the back of the vehicle. I bought two sliding gate latches, which are spring-rods in a housing you can bolt on to wood. I bought a 36in x 24in piece of birch plywood for the table. And I bought two folding shelf brackets. I will do a video of the assembly, because I haven't finished it yet. But the idea is this:
The spring-bolts will be on the underside of the shelf and slide into the liftgate eyelets. This holds the shelf in place and gives vertical support. The folding brackets will be attached to the shelf bottom and fold out against the back of the vehicle preventing the shelf from flopping downwards. When not in use, these fold up nicely and the whole thing is compact.
I'm excited about this project, and will definitely share the results here soon. I thought about attaching a fold down shelf to my rear door, both inside and out, and it occurred to me that his adds extra vertical strain to the door hinges. Why not cook up an arrangement attached the to back tub? It will work well as a nice place to pull up a camp chair and eat, as well as a place to cook using my MSR whitegas campstove, which is small, light, and fairly safe.

Hiya. Haven't responded up to now since you seem determined to buy "off the shelf". Lots of easy ways to do this DIY at a fraction of the cost of the option you prefer.....Do you have a rear w/w system and need to incorporate the motor? I assume from your q's that you do, in which case most options will not work "off the shelf" unless you modify something since the motor housing gets in the way. Do you really need a rear w/w? Do you intend to always cook with the rear door open? If so, have you planned an awning over the back? It's a real downer cooking in the rain!

I’ve just ordered some 3mm aluminium sheet in two bits so it can hinge in the middleish and the bottom section 300mm fold up for the shelf but when down nice and flat , overall size ordered was 855 wide x 540mm top “half” 240mm still thinking about neat way to support it

I did look at the dzus fasteners, as they’re quick , not used them before, I wasn’t sure if they would work flush ish to the bottom rail, in the end I put a M8 nutsert in, I need to change the half round screw for a stainless Allen screw and then be able to tighten by hand a bit better, and then secure it in place to panel so it’s not lost
