Rear crank oil seal easiest way

Had a search but find that instructions for replacing rear crank oils seal on 2.5 n/a involve splitting gearbox / engine and pics show taking gearbox out.

I was wondering how long of a job it would be to pull the engine forward after undoing bolts from gearbox and doing job from there, rad etc would have to come off and exhaust but would this be easier than dropping gearboxes?

swings and roundabouts,it is easier to do the seal with engine out rather than crawling underneath,refit using a 200tdi rear gasket it seals rear of engine better err1440 you just cut bottom off

totally agree lift engine out, and fix on bench is easier than box out and grovel on the floor underneath, especially if you are changing the housing gasket aswell.
Also box is really heavy and not really safe to lower balanced on a jack, safest way is to take out middle seat and lower with an engine crane to the floor which is even more work.

I'll use that 200 gasket then, thanks, seems like a waste of time with a 2.5n/a as whoever buys it will probably rip it out and put a tdi in

My 1 tonne engine hoist wont reach into the landy far enough to get the transfer box hoisted centrally so I have to strap a piece of 4x4 to the arm to get the reach
Think I'll go with engine out as there is not much to disconnect with mine it should be easy once the radiator is out.

Thinking of making a start next week
