I have now stripped the chassis, and am starting to look at the refurbishment of the axles.
My rear axle has some rust holes in what i am assuming is a strengthening part under the axle (see photo). My front axle doesn't have the same part. I am having trouble deciphering the axle numbers - i think (but i need to do some work to confirm this) that my rear axle is suffix A and the front is suffix B.

I am thinking i cut around the holes and weld in some replacement metal. Is that the sensible thing to do?

They are just reinforcement. I am sure you can get others to replace them, have a search. It may be easier/neater to just replace the whole thing but just using same gauge metal welded in would not be an issue IMO

Somebody will be along to say where new are available.

My rear axle when cleaned up showed a few pin holes and a nail tapped through quite readily
I opted for new one, was bout £500 , but if rest of yours is sound then weld on new strengtheners good call

From recent posts/thread I am sure many "puma?" owners would like to see their axles rust out rather than drop off.
And apparently thats a good weld :) .

Well, they've bought one of those coil spring things, what do you expect? Arms, rods, a-frames, linkages and god knows what holding the axle in place, rather than just two leaf springs like God intended.

To be fair, the leaf spring arrangement was designed before He moved his gaff up above the firmament and the lead suspension engineer was a leading Remain campaigner.
