P38A Rear Air Spring Problems

I have never seen a fitting with a nut on the air springs, that would certainly account for the problems you had. It would have been easier to just cut the pipe, hind sight is a wonderful thing.

Yes I should have cut the pipe for sure but I didn't know any better at the time, it had the bags on from when I bought the car. I would strongly advise anyone to check the connection on new bags before fitting and if it has this type of connection don't bother because if you ever need to remove them again you are in for a world of pain!

Something like this you mean?

Yes. I think, from memory, the pipe has 2 bends before it enters the bag? So 2 90 deg fittings per side would give a nice tight set up but not very professional. The tube is quite flexible though so one 90 deg and a bit of trial and error with the new length from the 90 to the bag should end up tidy. The entry to the bag should be square and not strained to avoid leaks.
My plan of action would be to cut the old pipe in an easily accessible place on a good straight bit, use that cut off piece as a pattern to heat mould a new piece, join the two together with a 6mm-6mm straight.

Thank you for the advice I will order up a metre or two of 6mm pipe and will buy a couple of 90 degree and straight fittings and see how I get on.

I'm telford. I've got lots of 6mm nylon pipe and might have some 6mm fittings too.
Just a suggestion, cut the bit off your car and pop over with it and we'll have a go at moulding two new ones? There's also a place near me that does all the fittings. I'm retired so any day or time is cool.
No charge.

Absolutely no need for 2 bends.

Very kind of you to offer, only problem is the car is now on axle stands waiting for the new bags. Also I need to order some pipe and connections. Found the connectors slightly cheaper, I think these should be ok, they sell straight and elbow?
Connector

They also sell pipe but I don't really want to buy a roll of 25-30 metres. Is it better to get polyurethane or nylon pipe or does it not matter?

Nylon not polyurethane. Those connectors are just fine.

Look on fleabay some sell shorter lengths. I remember buying about 15mtr for under a tenner

Right ordered the connectors and nylon pipe, hopefully will arrive later this week, then I can try and sort the issue over the weekend. Just out of interest does anyone know what pressure the air suspension system operates at? I guess these connectors can hold that pressure? With my luck recently I will fit the connectors and the pipes will blow off from them!!!

I cannot remember the cut off pressure but no more than 140psi. As long a the pipe is all the way in, the connectors will be fine. A little washing up liquid aids insertion.
