Gents,
I've not found a specific thread pertaining to my question. What order and what do I use. I have some rust spots on the paintwork where steel meets Alli, so question is, do I sand all the rust and crap away, de grease and paint with some sort of rust inhibitor (suggestions please?) then prime (etch primer??) then paint then laquer??
Cheers for looking.

Where is the corrosion exactly? When you say rust, do you mean it's on the steel part? Or the ali section, or both? Sadly, there is no easy solution. Some places will be easier than others, which is why I ask where it is. If the paint has broken down between the steel and ali sections you will have dissimilar metal corrosion taking place. Ideally, you need to create a barrier between the two metals as well as seal the surface of each (the paint did that for a while when new). Otherwise, any painting you do will be cosmetic and probably won't last too long.

If you have white oxide coming through the paint, say on the bottoms of the doors, you can't stop the alloy from corroding, galvanic corrosion is unstoppable once it begins.

It's nothing major it's the steel rear corners and the bottom quarter of the in front of the rear wheels where the cross beam slides in. Also where I had the spare mounted on the rear door it has rubbed off to bare metal. Shall I just sand down, degrease, etch prime then paint?
