Hi all,

I´ve finally got round to re-sealing my roof gutter. Hopefully the roof will be back on within the next week or so. I had the roof re-sprayed three times. Lond story but in short 1st time shocking finish and the bloke didn´t bother to remove the gutter sealant (after saying he would), 2nd time by a different bloke and not well done...3rd time very nice.

During the summer I scraped all of the old sealant out using wood chisels. I found these to be the best of all the tools i tried. The ends were sharp enough to slice through the old selant by hand. It took ages! The remnants were cleaned off with a wire wheel on a drill.

I decided to have the roof sprayed all over and then apply the gutter sealant. I have decided to use white UPOL tiger seal after reading various threads and articles. Here are some pictures...

That looks very impressive however I cannot help feeling a little bit of wasted effort for something that will be above eye level and in a couple of weeks will be a nice mossy green colour when it is recolonised by all of the native flora and fauna that lives in/on every available surface of a land rover :p

To be honest it looks better in the pictures than in real life. The paint isn´t perfect and there are lots of knocks and little dents. It was originally a police Defender in Croatia. I´m doing the best I can with the skills I have. I paid a local guy to do much of the work for me but it was a complete bodge. If I was doing it again I would do some things differently.

My plan is to have it perfect mechanically (thankfully the guy who galvanised the chassis did a wonderful job). I would like the exterior as nice as possible but doesn´t need to be showroom condition. After it is driveable I intend to fully use and abuse it and gradually sort out the interior.

p.s. I will cake the paint in mud straight away! :):):)

I took the gutter off my roof (when I was fitting a new one) and put the sealant directly in-between the roof and the gutter then riveted it all back together. Still leaked, so I then put lots more on the inside of the gutter pressed in with a finger, now it leaks from under the gutter where the rudder seal sits between the roof and the side panels.

best of luck!
