Ouch; nice to know. What is their justification for this?

Spam prevention mostly. It isn't unusual for mail servers to refuse
to propagate email that doesn't come from a verifiable address, just
wasn't aware that ISP's had begun configuring their mail servers to
do this.

In a related move, it appears that BMW will soon be deploying Sun
Java in their vehicles. It should surprise no one that Microsoft
has a similar deal with Fiat. And this is too appropriate to be
made up...is being reported in a coupla geek trade rags.

It makes sense. I was mulling this over earlier. However, there are
times (very rare these days, but I can see that changing) when I would
want to smtp from one server, forging my address to return to another.
I did this for a when I was using a cell phone and a PDA to read and
respond to email.

Interesting news about BMW's decision; I may actually develop some
respect for them now. Granted I don't know much about Fiats, but the
majority of the ones I've seen haven't been in the best of running
shape. Is Microsoft supposed to make that better? ;-)

Verizon allows this. What they don't allow is a fake address. I could use my old
address of [email protected], since comcast.net is a legitimate ISP, but I could
not use grpphoto@comcastDOTnet, because comcastDOTnet doesn't exist.
