Just penciled in my 2004 td5 for stage one remap with dynachip. Driving all the way up through France the week before so when it is done I will have a good drive back to see what difference it makes. I am going for usability, not economy but if I do happen to get a few more mpg then result. £225 quoted.
Also doing decat and K&N air fitler. Not EGR though.
Remap all done by Mike at Dynachip for £225 on my 2004 D2 td5 es auto with 64000 on the clock.
I went for the stage 1 which was just the map as I didn't want massive power, just enough to pull up the long hills on the motorway without changing down. If I did happen to get improved mpg then well and good.
What a great service to get at your home. He checked the map the ecu already had to see if it had been changed then put in the new map explaining the map that he is putting in and showing me on an excel worksheet. To be honest it was just a load of numbers I didn't understand. Then checked the turbo, ecu for oil ingress and a general look at the engine. We went for a test drive up and down the a dual carriageway. The increase in power is immediately noticeable but the best part in my opinion is when the torque converter comes in around 53mph. Once that has locked the car will accelerate from 50 to 70/80 as quick as I would ever want my land rover to go. Surprised a few white vans stuck to my chuff a few times. Overtaking is now a breeze. From pulling out of a junction IF you floor it the traction control will cut in.
I have noticed an increase in mpg even with all the driving having been at motorway speed in the UK and 130 kph in France, even with my right foot becoming slightly heavy. now that I am back home and will be driving mainly on 90 kph roads I am expecting there to be a bigger improvement as when the torque converter is engaged I can slow down to @ 48 mph and it stays engaged and she then just pulls so nicely from @ 1800 rpm. All I need to do is keep the revs around the 2000 mark and all should be well. I can see where when towing this map would really come into it's own due to the increased power at lowers revs, so I am now looking for a caravan, which was always my plan. On long drags up hill on motorways you do not have to slow down.
On the way to the UK, an 878 mile journey I averaged 26 mpg. On the way back after the map 28.3 mpg. Both ways fully loaded and I don't go slow for economy sake.
Now got the egr kit to do but not putting on K & n air filter as dynachip mike says that the oil from the filter can coat the sensor in the air flow meter causing problems just change the normal air filter more often.
I have done 1500 miles since the map and I haven't experienced any problems with overheating but the map only gives around an extra 40 bhp. His other maps recommend bigger inter coolers etc.
So pleased that I have done it. Now she is my ideal land rover. just now needs a little light weight to sit along side her, one day maybe.
