Hi (again)

I signed up in 2016 as I was looking for a discovery or freelander but then my health decided I wasn't having one at the time....anyway, I'm now back and I'm going to view a Discovery 1 at the weekend with a view to buying it.
It's my first 4x4 so be gentle with me please when I start asking questions.

I'll hopefully be posting some pics up early next week with a bit of luck

Welcome to the forum, manual or auto, price, age and how rusty. Inner wings, boot floor, rear arches and sills are the favourite rust trap. Ask me how I know :oops:

Best vehicle LR ever made, ****ed them up with all the complicated electronics but so long as you get early ones it's all good, at the very least gut all the crap out of the 300Tdi's

Welcome Pootz There is a mine of info on here and loads folks will help follow you round and pick up the bits as they fall off. I just sold my '96 Disco I with four hundred k up and I miss it. Rear boot/bumper rust and battery tray which turned to dust over the decades (but made a wooden one) and wouldn't have got rid of it except for personal circumstances. ENJOY

The no rust part of this might be something of a stretch - even if it has been "refurbed" - unless it's from a known good source, I'd be very careful - some of the rot can be quite expensive to fix properly....

I'd also advise some caution with the EDC fitted to the 300Tdi's of that period - make sure it works 100% - the sensor in #4 injector can be a mare to find.... So much so that when mine went, I had to change the FIP for a mechanical one, and ditch the electronics. It is actually much better for it, but unless you can do this yourself, you might have quite an expensive problem...:(

Ok. :) If you do a search on here or the web in general for "Bosch EDC", you'll find a lot of info - worth a read IMHO. Part number for #4 injector is ERR3337 - if you search for this, you'll see it is NLS ( no longer supplied ) - they can be built, BUT it's about a grand !!!:eek: - second hand ones do come up, but are unknown quality, :(.

If it does have EDC ( it might have been removed ), then make sure it works properly - download the RAVE workshop manual, ( search on here ), and familiarise yourself with the power on tests it should do.... But the best thing you can do, is, post some piccies of the areas Marmaduke mentioned in post #2, and let us advise you..... ;)

Are there pictures of the REFURB ???

I am always skeptical of other peoples versions of a refurb unless I can see what has been done.

I've ripped out loads a bad repairs from previous owners & put it all right along with documentation in my blog to show folk what I did.

Be warned, any crap bodges like fitting "over sills" to cover up the rust, black silicone and bits of tin stuck over holes to mimic seam sealed patches.

Don't be afraid to poke, prod and whack with a hammer, it's your money they want and if the vehicle is what they say it is then you have a mutual satisfaction, if the vehicle is not as they describe then you have cash and they just want it regardless of the state of the vehicle, you're under no obligation to buy and don't feel pressured by a pushy seller into buying a bad vehicle just because you have cash they have a vehicle, if it is not right, walk away, nice looking ones that have been given the "good enough to sell" treatment often turn into the biggest money pits as they trick you with a deceptive price tag that makes you think it's better than it is, do enough to cover up the rot and slap 12 months ticket on it, you won't know how bad it is until you go for the next test, then it begins.
 
I’m thinking of another Disco - had a D1 V8, thinking of a D2...



But a very cheap one, as I like wasting money on vehicles that you can watch dissolve on the drive...
