Nice awning. I bought a drive away awning for the D2 a few months ago as I wanted something that would provide better shelter from European weather than the traditional overland awnings, which seem designed for shade rather than rain; and which could be left behind at the campsite to mark our territory. Nothing worse than packing up the roof tent, going away for the day to come back and find someone has pinched your pitch. We looked at Kampa, but went with the Vango Hexaway Air.View attachment 173938

Vango kit is very nice, worth the extra outlay

Plus 1 ref the vango , mine is just an ordinary tent ,

Those tents looks really nice

Who'd have thought eh? Just soapy water with one of those? Chap on D3 forum got good results! I'll give that a go, need to pop to b&q tomorrow bet theyll have em there

Thks, got it all up the spec and looking really good then got the D3 , lol

Reminds me must lay the tent out on the lawn this year, fingers crossed it’s all ok, kept it in the spare bedroom

Should be fine mate, we kept ours in spare room for a year and sold it last week to a colleague it's all good. Was gonna leave it in garage but glad we didn't for damp

Thks, I’ve also wondered about selling it as I think it’s going to be very difficult trying to put the tent up on my own considering the way my back is now

Think something like you’ve got would be better , those air ones would be ideal but very expensive

The tent I’ve got is a 6/8 x berth with 2 x separate bedrooms , plan was then to have it for the grandkids for holidays

Would be a shame for it to just sit in the bedroom and go to waste , just haven’t made my mind up

Or something like one of those foldable tin tents as I know I’ve not got to worry if my landy is capable of towing it , lol

Not the roof one though , would be difficult throwing the dog up there, lol

Amazing the vast range they do, inc prices

In an ideal world to have a canopy as well attached to a roof rack of the D3

Tbh mate the air beam stuff is ridiculously heavy so it's a compromise between ease of erection (snarfle) and lugging the thing about. Our tent was an airgo stratus 600 with the porch as well, heavy package but so easy to put up once youve got it laid out. I like the folding campers but you can't beat a full fat tin tent if you've got somewhere to store it. But then again you've got to insure it really and then extra fuel towing it...Jesus this is hard lmao

Worse things I've ever seen are trailer tents, once watched a family of 6 implode trying to put one up...I didn't laugh, much

Bless u as that’s always helpful knowing that ref the weight

Have got a drive big enough for the D3 and a caravan but in fairness wouldn’t use it enough to warrant the extra money , plus would be a sod me trying to hitch it on my own and at the end of the day it’s just me and the dog now

Thinking about a roof rack system, can then have a canopy off it then a small tent like what’s shown attached to the side of the landy , so can be left in situ when going out for the day

Don’t know if by having most of it attached to the roof rack it would make it considerably lighter for me , or another option to lay the 2nd row seats down, fit a decent air bed as there’s enough room with these being such large motors

Just got to give it some thought

I bet u didn’t laugh, yeh right ;):p

Lmao , indeed the D3 might struggle up hills with that on the back ;)

Just had a look on Utube and to be honest would fit on my drive nicely , plenty of room for candy and I, even has a microwave / sink, would certainally save a major amount of hassle , looks perfect and think you may have come up with the ideal solution

Bless u mate and imagine I would get a few looks, having a D3 and that towed behind but wouldn’t care less

Looks really good :)

Sound, glad i might have put you onto something! I did look into them myself but invested in towing licence so we could have more space. Ideal for you though sir!
Just imagine, rain tapping away on the roof, couple of bottles of ale, playing cards with the grandkids, Candy curled up by the heater and a proper bed with your foam mattresses, pukka!

Really appreciated and many thks , sounds perfect , will defentely look into this as it will tuck into my drive nicely , can drill a plate into the concrete with some anchor bolts for security and will be right outside my front room window

See it only weighs 500kgs and indeed a very good point will be nice and dry , if it gets to windy will hook it back up to the disco, lmao

Didn’t know u had to have a towing licence , I think mine already has it on there

Thks again

Lmao! You won't get a better ground anchor tbf

Didn’t know u had to have a towing licence

Yep, I passed test in 2005 so had to do cat b&e to tow over 750kg unbraked or 3500kg combined. Got 7000kg max train weight limit now though so happy days. £500 well spent!

Have u seen how much they are new , sit down first , so second hand it is , lol

Jesus wept! Good spec like but that's a lot of money, get on fleabay old pal :D

Indeed a 3 ton brick,lol , I passed my test in 1986

That’s what i thought ref the prices , could buy a really nice full size caravan for 15k , will spend some time researching the sites and how much second hand ones go for and what condition there in

Forgot to get the magic rubby pad things! Done the rear arches, tailgate trim and bumper with the autoglym stuff. Bought it ages ago forgot how good it was

Realising how much plastic there is on these, having to pace it out over a few days when I get chance o_O it's going to take a few washes to get how I want it, you can see the ingrained dirt in the panel fold, there's green mossy as well.

This was nice to see today, just town driving and a little bit of motorway (m6 j10 to m54 j2) yesterday and today
20190401_145825.jpg

Filled up at Texaco (standard diesel) instead of Sainsbury's, averages about 1.5mpg more according to computer.....:)
