My rave is rubbish, some app has taken it over and made it useless, Microsoft has a way of getting your stuff and wrecking it, not even a search function on it or index anymore
anyone got some picks of how to undo the auto gear stick and take it apart please? (so I can get to the cable)

Glad I am still on windows 7, mind I just got an old tough book for diagnosing other cars and that on XP an so simple:)

I use 8.1 at work and generally have no problems with it, even with legacy stuff like RAVE.
Windows is going to a fee-based licence system, watch out for it.

Yes, each "app" will have a fee. At the moment all they want is your data to sell on and to feed to their artificial intelligence projects. Windows X is constantly trying to report back all your actions and strip all your communications data. If you don't use your Microsoft cloud account it constantly throws errors when you login and refuses to connect to the internet automatically. But I'd still take it over the 8.1 where everytime I touched the touchpad a bl**dy "charms" window overlaid everything. And then there's the design all over the place to stick things in as many submenus as possible so you cannot find it.

I use Classic Shell with 8.1, almost back to an XP screen layout.
There's still Linux to fall back on, but I'm not a big fan.
Peter

Linux is great under the covers but all of the graphical interfaces look a bit amateurish. Linux Tails is a great piece of kit to have in your back pocket but Open SUSE is probably the easiest to keep patched. Running in an Oracle VirtualBox instance keeps your options open.
