I like the k, when I were young I had a couple of rovers & they flew, that's why I've bought petrol freebie, the engines sweet just need to iron out the minor faults that last owner has noshed over( map chip, loads of white grease & dodgy air intake mod out of vacuum cleaner hose) its not rocket regular maintenance, get to know your engine, I nurse mine at the moment & never go over 3250rpm, even on motorway, & as for slowing down tough, when it's sorted I'll grin

Good man sounds like you're the newest addition to the K series appreciation society :D. They likes to take the pish out of our motors but we knows better .

it took some doing but once I sorted out the years of neglect mine had suffered it has rewarded me with reliability (touch wood)

i still check the fluids everyday though

I'm hoping mine will be the same story. It's a rescue dog and no mistake, but so far I haven't had a repeat failure on anything I've replaced. I also check fluids every day - which everyone should be doing anyway!!

fit an oil trap between the breather and the throttle body to stop gunking up.

Nice idea :), any bolt on kits or would it be a custom job?

Throttle body prob needs cleaning, how would I fit an oil trap??, Is the water pump an easy fit

i'll have a look inside my throttle body and see what state it's in.

i found a can of carb cleaner in me cellar the other day anorl

More bling :D! JDM bling too - a riced up Freelander, that's just about the funniest thing I ever heard of :hysterically_laughi

Cheers I'll add that to my list of cool links :).

Update guys, just drove to work (Hull tonight) maintained a steady 65/70mph all the way, minimal power loss, last thing I did today was a minor de-coke, bit of a trick my old man shown me years ago, cause a problem to clear **** build up, I tried all sorts but in the end I disconnected the temp sensor, freebie ran like ****, close to cutting out, persisted with revs for a few mins & got a lot of black **** come out exhaust, result is smoother running, still need to get power up properly any ideas on how to do a proper de-coke

Use the expensive fuel from a proper petrol station, and thrash the **** out of it once in a while, that usually cleans em out! Or do it the old fashioned way remove cylinder head, remove valves clean everything by hand, put back together, refit head, job done! I'd try the first method;) also as said clean inside throttle body!

I don't like taking it above 3500 - starts to sounds like a racer and it just doesn't sound like it's good for it. Just me being paranoid after the HGF though I spose. Least I've got the Chuck Norris coolant pump and if that can't handle it nothing can.

Never hit the red line????? Oooooh must be why my inlets as spotless as virgin snow! And yes my head gaskets still intact:D

That's shiny I like it a lot, I'm going ETS in Ripley they make em to the car, ( wonder if you can de-cat a Freebie & still pass emissions) Mmm one to ponder over,

They do a visual inspection on the mot now not just emissions check after I think 98? So if it ain't there its a fail now:( usually screws em up cos they're programmed to run with the back pressure then suddenly it's not there!

Cheers DD, it's having a major fluid transfusion today, throttle body cleaned as well, it is coked up to Fook, I mainly motorway drive so I think when it's all shiny I'll be grinning, I did notice mpg has gone up the more high speed driving I've done

The expensive stuff has a lot more detergent in it no need to run it all the time just a tank full every now and then, I'd guess the previous owner just pottered round put cheap supermarket fuel in and has done more harm than good! Decent fuel and motorway driving should clean it out!
