I've been considering buying an early 90's vintage Range Rover turbo diesel, the VM 2.5 version. What sort of things should I look out for ? Any help would be much appreciated.

Be careful where you mention those horrible VM things - the car isnt even easy to convert to a decent TDI.Men in white coats will take you away and put a funny jacket on you that you cant get off,and put you in a padded cell.
Please dont - they are horrible in every respect.

Thanks for the replies, one to steer clear of then ! What's so bad about them ? Unreliable ? Crap mpg ? Underpowered ? I can vaguely remember them being less than popular when they came out but not why.

basically everything is bad about them, they are only good for about 30,000 miles, the camshafts are held in by 1 bolt on each and they come loose no one will recondition them and no one will guarantee them when you buy a new one. top and bottom of it is they are complete **** ;)

So glad I came here. What were Landrover thinking ? Pity it's not even easy to convert to TDi, I'd have considered that ;)

never done one so dont know but can someone tell me why its not easy to convert?
cant see the chassis or gearbox being any different.

no idea, but i guess it shouldnt be too difficult???

Its cos everything is on the wrong side of the VM compared to the Tdi.Unless you bought a complete Tdi disco its a pain in the backside.I was doing some diagnostic work at a mates place while he converted one - lots of swearing/hammer throwing,"I'll never do this again" was said more than once.
