Mine makes the same noise. Drove me crazy trying to locate it when my battery was going flat. Was my rf receiver. I was sad enough to sit in my RR for twenty minutes to wait fer the becm to go sleep and it did. So did the whirring noise you describe. Since totally unplugging the receiver on the feed side all is well.

Hmm, cheers that saves me taking the dash apart.I gave up waiting for noise to stop after about five minutes.Just came back from having battery checked and the bloke who tested it says there is a charging fault,not enough being put back into battery,so that looks like a new blooming alternator then unless anyone knows different

Sit in your car & do the 'sleep-test' the dash will tell you if ifs shutting down or not. My electric gates & garage-door keeps waking mine.

O.k has anyone out there replaced just the voltage regulator part of the alternator before? Is it an easy job or am i better off buying a new alternator?Had to have a new compressor and valve block fitted just before Christmas so funds still struggling a bit at the moment. Cheapest new alternator i've found at the moment about £130.00.

Hi! Had the same problem. Traced to wiring in drivers door causing a draw on the battery. Also battery will drain if it isn't left in Park (on autos)

Id like to thank you guys on here for helping to sort out my battery problem. In particular BoomerV8 and canucki for pointing to the wireless broadband connections being the cause of my flat battery.
My problem started with the two front door lock assemblies stopped working on the remote. My local LR dealer told me it was the RF receiver and it would cost £150 to replace. I bought two new door locks from Rangerover Heaven in Wiltshire for about £100 and the RF receiver was another £10. (Having an eleven year old RR P38, I begrudge paying top prices). I fitted all the parts and all was well. At least for a little while. My battery went flat and I took it off the car and tried to charge it. It would not take any amount of charging and when the cells were tested with a hydrometer, they nearly all were duff.
I bought a new battery and within a couple of weeks, the door locks were knackered again and the battery was as flat as the proverbial witchs tit.
I spoke again to my local LR dealer who said it served me right for not paying the £150 for a new RF receiver. I did not mention anything about radio interference. At this point, I dug a little deeper and consulted the good old landy zone forum.
I have now bought the new up graded RF receiver (from a different LR dealer for obvious reasons) at a cost of £160 inc VAT. and all seems to be well.
