Range Rover TRANS FAIL

Hello I have a Range Rover Vogue 03 4.4 petrol and she's very unwell!
I had a water pump fail and fan belt come off. I stopped the car immediately and she lost all the water. After cooling off the car was recovered onto a truck which I was able to drive on. When we got the car off again I had TRANS FAIL message and could not drive the car off the recovery truck it was winched into a parking space because of a dead battery. Now the water pump and fan belt are replaced but I still have TRANS FAIL message? Any ideas? Will a hard reset solve the issue? I had not previous bumps grinds or noises with the gear box/ transmission? There is no drive at all to move the car?
 
Your (ZF 5HP24) transmission is designed so that, even in the event of electrical failure, it has limp-home capability. It achieves this using the manual valve in the valve body assembly which directs full mains pressure to the A & B clutches (4th gear) if Drive is selected and the C & F clutches in Reverse, without intervention from the solenoids. If you have no drive at all, in either direction, this could indicate that the transfer box is in neutral. You can test this by checking whether the transmission’s park lock will hold the vehicle in Park. If not, it may be worth trying the Fuse 37 recalibration to see if you can reselect high range.

Ok so if the car holds firm in park what does this essentially mean? And sorry would you mind telling me what fuse 37 calibration is? - thankyou for your input on this as well!!
 
There is a fuse, removal knocks the transfer box into neutral for towing.

I removed my fuse in ignorance once when my transfer box stuck in low range. I simply refitted fuse to engage drive then went on to fix the sticky actuator with a strip n clean.
Pull the fuse and re-insert then see where you are.:)

Sounds awfully like a sticky hi-low actuator, did you select low range to creep onto the transporter?
It's 3 years since I did the clean n strip so maybe someone more current can assist.
My memory is hazy on the detail.

A little vid on the actuator.....I think it's the petrol one.

Well a full battery charge and all came back to life very happy - then left the car alone for a few weeks and now the Battery has gone flat and I'm locked out? Any idea how I now jump start without being able to open the bonnet??

Ahh, that makes it more difficult :rolleyes:

I imagine your local garage or AA/RAC man may have a way of popping the bonnet.

Then I would suggest fixing the lock mechanism and/or installing a jump start plug like those on breakdown vans, where they plug in one end of jump leads which connect to the vehicles battery and a jumper battery for such occasions...
