Range Rover sport 07

Hi Everyone I’ve just joined and hopefully you can help me with a question I have.
We own a Range Rover Sport 07 and have owned it from new had regular mot and servicing and really looked after it and it has 18,000 Miles on the clock we absolutely love this car. Last Saturday it broke down on the A 1 the oil light came on my husband luckily was near and exit pulled over we had it towed to a land rover garage but have been told the engine is dead due to the oil pump damage to the engine and the whole car is no good I’m sure I have read somewhere since there is a problem with the pump and where it sits is this correct. I also feel if this is a known problem why the garage who did so many services and never suggested replacing it.

if its the tdv6 they are know for it

Have a google search tdv6 oil pump failure, the part number has been superseded at least twice.

It is the oil pump casting that breaks this allows the cambelt tensioner to break free and thats it game over.

Then they made the engine bigger so if you google sdv6 crank failures you can find more stuff to read.

DO NOT and I cannot stress this enough go with any of the engine recon/replacement companies that offer to take your car away, they are cheaper for a reason.
You need to do some real research on any company you use if you do not personally know them. not just their reviews etc.

Oval Autos in Maidstone are meant to be real good, on facebook etc.

LR never admitted there was an issue with the oil pump or the crankshafts.
Many LR and non LR workshops reckon the oil pump casting is not an issue, they also say 3.0 engines do not break cranks!

I would guess cars in warranty were covered, those just out were on a goodwill basis, or bought as used from main dealers were in with a chance of paid for repair, as yours is 15 years old I would say you are on your own.

I think you can get recon engines from LR themselves for about 3.5/4k, plus fitting costs.
