I guessed that Tony, but I was not sure what lights the petrol has so thought I'd ask for confirmation.Injector light says diesel Keith.
Sounds like CPS or needle lift sensor to me.

its a 2.5 dse [bmw engine] 97/98. had it on diagnostics only came up with crank sensor changed that now doesn't come up with any faults
What diagnostics were used?
top of range snap on

Use a top of range Faultmate MSV or Nanocom and see what that tells you.
