I am coming over to collect my 2000 4.6 Vogue Range Rover in 7 days time.

I have read endless pages on this forum and others plus been directed to many useful links and pages from the very experienced hands on LZ.

I will be compiling a final check list as the day gets closer, if theres anything else that members remember thinking they should have checked/asked about on purchase I'd be delighted to know.

The anticipation is building!

Make sure that everything works as it should (heated seats probs won't but they never seem to). If everything does then it shows it's been well maintained.
Check EAS is quick to rise as you can't really check whether it stays up.
Ask/check about RF receiver - a new one will cost you ~£250 and possibly a new battery..
Check for any rust beneath the tailgate, this is about the only place you'll find any.
Autogearbox smoothness, and check that LR works.
Service history is important to check.
Otherwise, just apply all the checks that are relevant to a used car :)

Make sure that everything works as it should (heated seats probs won't but they never seem to). If everything does then it shows it's been well maintained......intend to follow usual check list, of pressing every switch, checking both sides of A/C system, starting when cold, checking all lights go out apart from ABS until on move.

Check EAS is quick to rise as you can't really check whether it stays up.....if starting from cold will it have automatically gone down on bumpstops from night before, how long for it to come up and or down when button pressed? Also to check bags on high, I know theyve changed 1/2 recently

Ask/check about RF receiver - a new one will cost you ~£250 and possibly a new battery.....its just had a new battery, looking out for green dot on new R/F reciever, its easy to access/see?

Check for any rust beneath the tailgate, this is about the only place you'll find any.....under rubber flap...ok

Autogearbox smoothness, and check that LR works....yes when on move will ensure full check of both modes, plus smoothness/noises on hard acceleration, any odd noises when steering etc

Service history is important to check....has full history...MD and also all MOTS with mileage noted

Otherwise, just apply all the checks that are relevant to a used car .

Anything else guys?

Not sure I'll have that with me, as advised will take out the old breakdown cover, any indies recommended along the route ( or even members who've a diagnostic kit prepared to help) from Truro to Birmingham, does the forum have an independent LR specialist list, given the typical paucity of good reports on MDs?

I bought my P38 blind off Ebay, it got me from Birmingham to Poitiers with no problems, the aircon condensor failed a couple of weeks later:rolleyes:

Hopefully it won't have gone down to the stops overnight!
It should only take a few seconds to rise up if pressure is good.

RF receiver is underneath RH rear parcel shelf; it's easy to remove and check, just take care on replacing that the seat release button goes through its hole :)

I'm doing same, but as ever when distance buying you need to give it the once over before handing over dosh. Regardless of whats being claimed about any given vehicle, you need to check it out, even though its coming with a warranty.

Ah so really is for spares haha
What didn't work on it? What have you cannibalised off it so far?
Suspected cracked head. Sold quite a few bits off it, covered a lot of my cost, I bought it for the gearbox but have since decided to fit a 4HP24 when I eventually swap it out., but the rest is there gently rotting away for when I need it, diffs, FIP, axles and so on.
Maybe I should send the brake calipers to myfirstL322 to refurbish:rolleyes:

Ooh that's good, what's the warranty cover?

I'd love to have the space to do that, mainly after my FIP worries!
