Looking for some advice if anyone can help, i have rebuilt a Range Rover 2.5 DSE (BMW Engine) still got a few little things to do to complete it but its up and running and i seem to have a problem with the auto gearbox.

Seems to lack the pulling power when pulling away, it then seems to not be able to make its mind up which gear it wants to be in when going up hill, as it seems to be jumping up and down in the last two gears.

stab in the dark, (but since you just rebuilt) gearbox ecu needs to see, load, tps, vehicle speed, engine speed etc from engine ecu..check you have good connection on plug/socket (connecting gearbox to engine loom)behind engine..other than that over to james..

The gearbox is the original gearbox checked all the plugs, connections etc now wondering if the filter inside is blocked or the pump is weak.... seem to have got so far now and got this problem only....

Sounds pretty normal to me, they are inclined to hunt up and down the gears on hills, owners manual suggests using the stick to hold the gear you want.
Of course, if the engine is not performing to spec, it will be slow to pull away and it will agravate the shift problem, sounds to me like you have an engine problem rather than a gearbox problem.
