could anyone please give me some advice on the following issue,i had my gearbox rebuilt in the range rover l322 vogue auto 2003 plate about 5 months ago,but unfortunately its again failed i took it back to the gearbox specialists who say its due to the oil cooler feed pipe blowing off causing it to loose oil,the oil cooler and both pipes was replaced when the box was rebuilt,is this a common issue ? what would cause the pipe to blow off ? your info will be much appreciated, regards Lee

Incorrect fitment.

At the cooler end they are push connections but if fitted correctly should not come apart.

Iwould suggest going backto the installer and call them a bunch of planks and get them to fix it again and properly.

There are many L322's out there on there original coolers and pipework with no issue!

I’ve never heard of it either, and as Saint says, it’s down to whoever fitted it. I take it you lost all drive and had a great deal of mess? I’m not sure what would happen without any oil, I can’t see the torque converter would be able to give you any drive. Are they saying you need a complete rebuild ?
@Bemble is your man if you want a ZF5HP24 reconditioned better than a new one

hi m8 theres no drive at all or in reverse, hes going to put some il in today and see if any further damage as been done, its strange because it was only rebuilt about 5 months ago and the oil cooler and both pipes was also replaced,so i find it hard to believe they have blown off

yes m8 lost all drive hes gooing to put some fresh oil in today and see if any damage as been caused

See how that goes, Bemble could tell you what is likely to have occurred but i would imagine without oil pressure you would get no drive straight away and as i understand it, the torque converter is like your clutch but is operated by oil pressure from the increased rpm. if you are lucky, no drive means nothing inside the transmission is turning to do any damage, fingers crossed, lets us know how you get on.
