Hello All,

I Ran A Error Code Check On My Disco 2 2002, The Code I Received Was p1668, I Can Not Find This Code In Any Books Or On The Internet...does Anyone Know The Error Code And What Causes The Fault. I Feel That It Is Electrical. If You Know The Code Meaning And The Fault, Can You Tell Me How To Find The Location Of The Fault In The Engine Or On The Vechile.

Thank You, Nash

HEY THANKS,

P1668 Engine anti-theft signal circuit high, Serial link open circuit...

WHAT EVER THAT MEANS, MY ENGINE ANTI THEFT CIRCUIT IS OPEN. I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO BEGIN LOOKING TO FIX THIS????

So what is your car doing wrong ? If it appears normal then forget it,as you posted it as a powertrain code not a descriptive code then I assume you are using a basic OBD code reader.LR products dont respond well to these and often give misleading results.Testbook or a couple of other aftermarket diagnostic systems are really the only ones to use.

Well the problem is my Rover is not starting at very random times and it is problem. I need to find out what the problem is so this vehcile becomes reliable again. I figured it had something to do with the alarm, eletronics, or a wire short and thats the direction the code is pointing me in. So some one HELP ME and figure that code out P1668.

I used a OBD2 code reader which is what was suggested to me by a highley regaurded person with knowledge of Land Rovers and how to trouble shoot them.

Thanks, Nash

When it wont start does it crank and not fire, not crank,no ign/batt lamps ? Do you have any other alarm related issuses,ie going off randomly ?

Hey guys and gals,

Just to update the problems and receive some help. I live in the states, Florida and yes I own a V8 petro Landy Dicso series 2 2002. Here is the problem in short

1. When it rains for a long while like 2 hours or more the Rover will not start.

a. The key cranks all lights work, radio, AC, dash lights, everything is normal the engine just will not start either not by fuel, or fire.

b. Changed spark plugs

c. Ran OBD 2 trouble shooter and received code P1668, the code refers to " ENGINE ANTI- THEFT SIGNAL CIRCUIT HIGH, SERIAL LINK OPEN CIRCUIT"

2. After about 12 hours or more of no rain, the car will start, as if the problem has dried out.

Seriously this is excatly what is happening, evertime it rains good, the ROVER will not start and when the SUN comes out and dries it all up, it starts. I Love my ROVER and want to fix this on my own, because its just the manly thing to do, no really I do not have the money to pay $110 an hour for service. If I could some how find that wire or problem area in the engine or on the ROVER I could fix it, I just need to know where that curcuit is...

PLEASE HELP.

Nash is wet Florida

Disconnect the battery, then remove the passenger compartment fusebox.Have a good look at it,you will probably find signs of water contamination inside it.This unit is not just a fusebox,it also contains the IDM.Intelligent driver module - it works in conjuntion with the BCU and has lots of functions.
If there is water in it then thats probably whats wrong with it,so next you need to stop the water.Likely causes are windscreen and sunroofs.
Good luck !

Try a can of IGNITION SEALER after fitting a new set of high quality plug leads.

Next time it won't start - lift the bonnet (hood) and observe the distributor and leads as someone else tries to start it. If you SEE sparks or HEAR sparks .... you know what it might be.

Make sure the PLUG GAPS are not too wide as that increases the resistance enough to cause insulation break-through if there's dampness about.

You could fit a diesel engine and save the worry?
