hi folks ...
looking for ramps to drive the discovery up onto so that I can get under it easier. don't trust the normal car one which only take 1-1.5t if both used :-(

has anyone any idea where I can look to get "the heavy duty ones"

is it the same ones as on difflock and I am in near Twickenham :D
 
i always use ordinary ones and it's not a problem.
ffs, the whole vehickle only weighs 1.8 tonnes and yer never gonna get much more than a quarter of that on each wheel - say 600 Kg max. therefore a 1tonne rating is plenty.
 
I have always found it a job to drive up onto ramps they just get pushed along the road, and if I could the walls of my tyres would hang over the side.
So I use a high lift 3ton trolly jack and then axel stands I can then also take a wheel off if I want to make it easier to get underneath which you can't do with ramps.

I have find that putting the car in low ratio helps a lot when driving onto ramps - the whole process feels more under control and no sliding.

I use a set like the Screwfix ones, had them 15yrs, never any problems.

They are also a good size for sliding under the car, if you want to put both on one side for lifting both ends at once.
 
place the ramps against the tyres, then apply yer boot a couple of times so that they're wedged under yer tyres. they don't move when yer drive up then.
I always engage low / diff lock before driving up, apply the handbrake hard, leave it in gear and chock the wheels that are still on the ground.
not that I'm paranoid or anything.

Nooooooooo! these is ones i med years ago outof inch arf angle.

so they int shiney an they int rough either afore yer ask !

best way t stop the vehhicle shovin yer cheap crappy ramps away is t wrap a bit of carpit thru the first "tread" an double it back onnitsen the the wheel traps the ramps so they dunt fookoff !
 
Do yerself a favour when yer get them see if yer can lock the two together with a length of angle at the front, and leave a section sticking out both sides to stabilize them. I have seen them topple sideways, and it also makes it much easier to get on them.

They just need a scrub "an a coat o summat if yer got a posh garidge"
There just under a foot high. thats not to the stop bit !
