More information please. What country, when, did you do any real rescues? Any more photos? Interesting .

Hi the country was Aden 1963-1965. We undertook a number of rescues from both civilian and military. Tradition in the armed forces was if you climbed the local mountain you would never be posted back to Aden (not one of the better postings) so many did in flip flops, volcanic lava is very sharp so many who climbed the mountain came to grief, one bad recovery was after a large troop carrying helicopter crashed in the Rad Fan mountains with no survivors.
Our main task was training RAF air crews from around the world desert survival. As you can see we had two land rovers, one Austin one ton, and a Bedford three ton vehicles. All standard vehicles with standard military tyres, we use PSP attached to the vehicles for use under the wheels when needed. (PSP was used by the military to construct a remote airfield when put together). We had Jerry can carrier front and back for Water and fuel. The vehicles were equipped with vhf radios for communication with supporting aircraft and the Austin had a long range HF radio which was my job as a radio operator. I have a few more photos I will scan and add.

We has just walked across the ridge of this mountain with the RAF base Khormaskar in the back ground.

Great photos. From another time but not too long ago. It looks hot and the mountains rugged. I love deserts and historical stuff like this. You must have great memories of the time there.

The Austin's are one of my favourite military trucks. 6/7 L multi fuel engine, look great and really straightforward looking. My landy garage owner has a recovery version I'd love to buy it.

Thanks for sharing those.
