Hi All,

I was in the process of refitting my front radius arms on my 1992 200tdi defender, but the arms seem really loose when going back. They are the same that got taken off just painted up and rebushed. I can't remember them being loose when they came off or if it was packed out with thick washers.

Any ideas?

More worryingly the bolts that you have used are not in safety, you need a minimum of 1 to 1.5 threads protruding out of the nut so I think you have narrow radius arm bolts (shorter) in a wide arm axle. Normally there is about 1.5 cm of bolt thread sticking out the nut on a wide radius arm axle which is a bit excessive but not dangerous. MOT man would / should hopefully give you fail and even potentially a prohibition notice if he spotted that. Best solution would be to fit wide radius arms, JMs option of washers should work as long as they are large washers (same diameter as the bush widest point) but for everyone's sake you do need to get the correct bolts fitted before it goes on the road.

Thanks JamesMartin and Kwakerman.

The bolts were only just put there to hold the arm in place to see what the fitment was like.

I have got the longer bolts in another box somewhere!!

Thanks again!
