What do you use in your P38? We bought this one like this, the unit is some satnav from 2003, I imagine retrofitted. It measures 16.5x10cm and we want to replace it with some sort of carplay so we can use the satnav from phone. Either via USB or Bluetooth. Any recommendations?

Looks a tidy job
I don't if sarcastic or not. Honestly, first time I got in the car I didn't notice anything as i didn't know what it's supposed to look like, but after looking at it you can see the dremel marks on the plastic.

I can live with using satnav from phone, but how do you listen to music? I assume the tape player is not easily interchangeable for something else because of its measurements and because you enter the eka code through it. I have a few tapes I listen to but if I can't find another car play I'll have to solder an aux cable to the tape deck

Either an FM tuner or I have a thing like a tape that plugs in but has a headphone jack to my phone.

You enter the head unit code into the radio, not the EKA, that's fine though the drivers door
If you want music from your phone then a Bluetooth-FM tuner is simple
Bluetooth 5.0 Car Wireless FM Transmitter Adapter 2USB PD Charger Hands-Free off the bay is what I use £5.99

Do you have link for that?
copy and paste , Bluetooth 5.0 Car Wireless FM Transmitter Adapter 2USB PD Charger Hands-Free , into ebay search bar and several come up. Watch out for the ones that come from China as they take an age to arrive. The one I bought came from Manchester but my link now shows if I want another its from China, only took 2 days to arrive

No sarcasm here. The ‘38 I bought had an Android thumbed in. I’ve removed it now and replaced the original parts. Difficult to get a good finish when you are effectively butchering plastic. So to answer original post, that looks like a good attempt.

I'm on my 2nd revision. P38 does not have room in the dash for a standard 2-din stereo, so first time used an Android 7" tablet. Second (current) version is a 7" screen with remote head unit mounted under the passenger seat.

The Joying has internal amp disabled, and the line outputs feed the door amplifiers & sub via balancing transformers, so there's no buzz, hum or hiss. I use an external 4G dongle for data connection, but the newer units have built in 4G sim slot & external antennas.

Fitted one a newer version Joying 2-din Android into wife's freelander, but looking at this one for P38 3rd version !!

I'm more interested in how you fitted that stereo unit in place of the tape deck?

The 1-din cubby fits where the original stereo was. I cut out the LR cubby to fit the screen. Joying do a 100cm ribbon cable to connect the screen to the head unit.

I also did the "fan & heatsink mod" recommended on xda-developers forum to keep the CPU cool. This recommended for all Chinese head units, as they do tend to run hot & slow unless you add suitable heatsinks. Fan runs on 9V rather than 12V so it's inaudible when running.
